I'm going to the opening. I'm very excited about this.
It's been rescheduled for March 13.

Really? Hmmm. I have tickets for tonight. I guess with the show having canceled some performances, they're given them a chance to get back up to speed.

Well, I did see Southern Comfort this past Tuesday and it is a very moving beautiful work. Once again, kudos to The Public Theater for producing this important musical. I truly hope that Southern Comfort finds its audience. It deserves to be not only be seen, but to be cherished.
It's official: Isherwood has gone crazy (and lost all sense of taste).

That's def. a white wash of a review. If he calls the music in Bright Star bland but likes this music I'm going to seriously stop reading him.

Brantley would have told it like it is. First Disaster, now this? What is happening - does Isherwood want to damage his chances of succeeding Brantley?
How many of the performers in the show are actually trans? I know there was a big to-do about the Public searching for actors, but it seems like most of the main roles are being played by cis performers.

[ { (Casa Valentina - Reed Birney) + (76% Airline Highway + 22% #Hedwig + 2% La Cage) } x #FunHome + #CaitlynJenner] = #SouthernComfort
I only know of one performer who is actually trans because it said so in his bio. There very well could be more but not sure.
There are two trans performers in the present cast.

Is that the only review?
I loved the show. I thought it touching and authentic.
Authentic meaning no one could sing?

The performance I saw, everyone could sing. I know that there was some illness in the cast and I wonder if you saw a 'bad' performance. I thought the music beautiful and both the cast and band backup singers' voices lovely.
I'm intrigued that the run is so brief, reviews appearing this week, closing next Sunday. I supposed an extension was factored, but doesn't seem to be happening. It's a substantial piece to remount, and perhaps they assumed further NYC interest might turn up during this run. It's not material with an obvious transfer potential, thought such a call is impossible nowadays. My guess is, it will now be published and licensed. I can imagine LORT houses, and specifically LGBTQ companies doing it (Celebration in LA, New Conservatory Theatre Center in SF).
With Stew's new show coming into that theatre, an extension was never possible, at least in that venue.
I caught this yesterday and was disappointed. I think it just would have been better as a play. I find it surprising that its creators have worked on this for ten years. I really wanted to like this.
