Holy crap, I was just about to post pretty much the EXACT same thing. Tonight was…fine. I was distracted by the entire row in front of me eating fried chicken during act one (which, if you were in the front mezz you HAVE to have been able to smell) but I was reminded of why I didn’t really care for the original production much after having quite enjoyed that first preview.

Funny, I thought the set looked good from the rear mezzanine.  I remember being disappointed by the set in the original production as it didn’t deliver the spectacle I was expecting (and remember the “very expensive forest” being cheaper-looking than in this production).  Perhaps I’m just more used to downscaled sets in 2023 than I was circa 2006.

From the rear orchestra, I thought the set looked perfectly fine. Not elaborate or complex, but not cheap-looking, either, particularly the projections, which I thought were pretty great.
