The production values are sky-high in London, and from the various interviews, it sounds like they're aiming even higher here. However, it's still a nearly three-hour play with lots of dialogue between the magic/action, and if you haven't seen the tv show, I'm not sure this is worth the money and time. I don't know if you'd be lost as it's a prequel that sets itself up, but there's so much fan service in there regarding the characters, and there are twists that only work as twists if you know the show. I'd try having him watch the show first. If he doesn't get into it at all, he probably won't like the stage show.

I saw it in London last week- and have not seen the Netflix show. All I can say is that the production values were excellent- but it really is not the genre that I am interested in. I was disappointed that I was unmoved by it- the story was kind of bizarre- and unless you like sci-fi type of stories that bear little relation to reality- with monsters and such....I do not recommend it.
Thank you both! That is super helpful.
