STRANGER THINGS to transfer to Broadway's Marquis Theatre in spring 2025
Posted: 8/6/24 at 2:07pm
It’ll be interesting to see the Marquis house a (likely) hit show.

This is also a play, right? Not a musical? Has the Marquis ever even housed a play?

One of Broadway’s curses has just been broken.

It's never the theater, it's the show that people want to see or not.

I would say this is the Marquis' first real play: It housed an 8-performance return engagement of Patrick Stewart's CHRISTMAS CAROL in 2001, so this will be its first play with more than one actor and more than an ultra-limited holiday run.
As with POTTER, there is music and choreo involved with the STRANGER THINGS play but it is not a musical.
The Lyric had also never housed a play prior to POTTER.

Absolutely loved this in London and I’ve never see the actual show before.

Oh that's good to know! I watched the first season of the show and while it's well done, I just didn't care about it enough to continue, but I'm interested to see how the play is.

Do you remember the content warning of the show? Loud noises? Bloody?

Exactly. And let’s not ignore the fact that the current tenant at the Marquis has done exceptionally well since opening, even if the production itself is subpar. I do wonder how long THE WIZ could’ve maintained the numbers it’s been pulling if it weren’t a limited run, but oh well.

The beauty about seeing a show there is you can camp out on the 8th floor if the weather is crappy.

Honestly don't remember. I don't think it's bloody? Def. loud noises. But there's some really beautiful stage craft going on.

Plenty of both. And a ton of graphic animal cruelty. Not a show for all tastes...

From the show's official site:
This production contains gunfire audio, loud noises and explosions, haze and smoke, flashing lights and strobe, and strong language. There are depictions of various mental health conditions and disorders.

What makes this good?
Does it actually add anything to the Stranger Things universe? Vague hints about season 5 doesn't draw me in.

Thought this show was a real thrill in London, however I don't love this house for it. I realize there's so many factors that go into moving forward with a space, I was just hoping for an older Hawkins-esque theatre for the transfer. The atmosphere at The Phoenix really contributed to the eeriness of the piece. Still super excited and happy for the Nederlanders to have a lengthy tenant at The Marquis.

It’s a lot of fun! Not the biggest fan of the show (I still like it) but this was an incredibly enjoyable night at the theater, though I’ve heard they changed it a tad from when I saw it.

Curious how much they overall the theater's vibe to suit the show. It feels like a cruise ship theater which doesn't really vibe with the show. But it's a big show, so I think it'll look marvelous on that stage.

The play IS a prequel...

it’s not as if the show matches the vibe of the Phoenix either.

I saw it a while back. Do you mind to elaborate?

Honestly it is the loudest live performance of anything I've ever seen. Be ready to cover your ears in the first 10 minutes (it gets quieter after that)

Personally I think it completely changes how one views Season 4. It suggests that a major thing viewers believe (because a character said it to another character) was actually a lie (in a believable way / because of a reason another character was forced to lie in earlier seasons).
That was difficult to write without being spoilery.
