Posted on Playbill this morning, STREETCAR's highest priced tickets are $199. Do the producers really expect this will help but asses in seats?

Are they (or equivalent to) premium seats?

Posted: 2/6/12 at 6:50amI believe in these press releases, they usually specify what the premium seats cost in a separate sentence.

Usually, when the prices of the top seats rise, so do those of the cheapest seats.
And when one show crosses a barrier, then others invariably follow suit.
This is not good news for the ardent theatregoer.
Oh, well. Producers will make more money. That's what the market system is about, charging whatever the market will bear, and pocketing the most cash possible.
For the wealthy with money to throw aound, it won't make any difference.
For middle class folk who limit their theatregoing to four or five shows a year, they'll have to reduce it to three or four.
For those obsessed with seeing as much theatre as they can, well, them's the breaks. Tough noogies, as they used to say. I'd recommend seeking out another hobby, like stamp collecting. And limit yourself to a theme, like bungalows or mountain goats. And you can still listen to "A Bungalow in Quogue" or "The Lonely Goatherd" while gazing at your collection.

Back in 2008/09 when Stephen Byrds (the producer of STREETCAR) production of CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF received no Tony nominations,Mr. Byrd stated that he was not on Broadway to win awards but to make money.
Hey at least he is honest.

Posted: 2/6/12 at 10:48amThis is not a show likely to sell a lot of premium tickets. Most of those are going to end up getting released day of at the box office

Posted: 2/6/12 at 11:07amother than people who know about discounts, and the Church groups who will do group sales, many full price and perhaps premium tickets will be sold.It was the same with Mr. Byrds CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. The target audience for this production just might consist of people who are not avid/regular theatre goers. Or the higher priced tickets may be considered to be the best tickets, and will thus be sold at the full price.

Posted: 2/6/12 at 11:13amTrue, though CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF had a lot 'starrier' cast than this production does. If STICK FLY can't get an audience I'm not sure this will either..

Well, you could always depend on the kindness of strangers.
(And suddenly I'm wondering if anyone's ever actually turned a trick for a theatre ticket.)

The prices are right in line with everything else. It's always a joy to have someone start a misinformed thread.
As to the artwork: Blair Underwood coming out of Blanche's cooch is bad enough...but it's just funny that he's followed by everyone else.
I am actually curious to see this one, although Im not sold whether it can work.
And I seem to remember being told that Emily Mann (director) worked directly with Tennesee Williams. I don't remember the context, but it was said she was something of an 'expert' on his work. OBVIOUSLY, this was quite some time ago, before she took over at McCarter (Princeton). (I could totally be pulling that out of my butt...but it is in the depths of my memory)

How cute, they turned Blanche's "Hooch" into a clown car.
It's probably appropriate artwork considering the casting.
Having seen and being overwhelmed by the recent BAM production, which should have gone on to Broadway, I have 0 interest in seeing this.
