Hearing that the post-show speeches were delivered tonight by Leigh Silverman and Shaina Taub, punctuated by a blast of purple and gold confetti as the Alex Newell + Broadway Inspirational Voices rendition of “Keep Marching” played over the speakers.
Also, Hillary was there (in purple) and joined the SUFFS family onstage for the speeches.
I was there. It was wonderful. Seemed that half the audience was wearing merch (or political stuff).
The crowd roared for every entrance and must have stood up at least five or six times. I think everyone cried. I know I did.
The speeches were lovely (but too long, as always). Hillary came on stage but didnt say anything -- purple pantsuit. (Quite a weekend for her -- the Medal of Freedom in DC on Saturday and Suffs on Sunday). Yes, Leigh Silverman, and then Shauna Taub spoke. Then they shot off the confetti cannons and played the Alex Newell version of 'Keep Marching.'
We got out of the theater after 6 pm.
I think for a lot of people (certainly the people in the room for closing) this show was about a lot of things other than theater. We can debate whether it was great theater or not -- but for many people -- it got them through a 2024 that was, shall we say, less than perfect in its political results.
