I'm a fan of Luis Fonsi and had his greatest hits album on constant rotation when I was in college 10 years ago... pre-Despacito. That being said I agree with you, that he is a weird choice for this.
I guess they just want ratings? or a new audience?
I still wish Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert were involved in this production somehow.
I can see why they’d pick him, he is “hot” right now, and I like the idea of a Hispanic Judas that way there isn’t a weird white/black race debate happening, but he doesn’t strike me as someone with a very gruff voice, which I kind of want for Judas.

I'm an unapologetically ardent ALW fan, but I do wish he'd stop pursuing pop stars (e.g., Leona Lewis, Nicole Scherzinger, et al.,) for musical theatre. There are more than enough studio-created and auto-tuned "singers" on the radio and TV; I wish we could leave musical theatre to those who can really sing.

Does Dixon have the range for Judas? (Not that the question is particularly important; I mean, John Legend quite plainly can't sing the part of Jesus.) Another possibility is that he's one of the other roles or a producer of the project; he does have Of Mice and Men and Hedwig under his belt.

This link says Norm Lewis is in it. Which one is right???
I am still skeptical about John Legend as his high notes are usually floated and whispery. They really should have gone with a rock tenor for Jesus. But, other than that, I am good with the cast.

Good for them! While I know brandon will be great, im not that excited about this casting. He kinda left a bad taste in my mouth over his Once on this island comments.

I'm wondering if they're going for a different approach. There are a lot of voices that I love but while they're big, they have a different quality than the screlters I typically think of with JCS. This JCS is seeming more smooth and soulful than rock and belting.
The ensemble was announced today and a mix of names very recognizable to Broadway fans: Christine Dwyer, Lauren Zakrin, Joel Perez, Felicia Boswell, F. Michael Haynie, Christina Sajous, Kyle Taylor Parker, and...Jonah Platt, among others. Bahiyah Hibah, one of the greatest female dancers on Broadway in the past 15 years, is a featured dancer.

eek is right...I had no idea how thin his voice was until I heard this. It's a good thing they have such a strong group of Broadway voices in the other roles and the ensemble. They are going to have to carry the show.
