GREAT news for all of us who were fans of Holdren's writing.
"Holdren, an accomplished director and teacher, previously served as New York’s theater critic from 2017 to 2019, during which period she received the George Jean Nathan Award for Dramatic Criticism, and American Theatre magazine subsequently called her “the indispensable voice the theatre didn’t know it needed.” At New York, she also published outstanding interviews with a variety of theater-makers, including Heidi Schreck, Tony Kushner, and Ivo van Hove.
Holdren will join critic Jackson McHenry, who will continue to review theater in addition to writing features and news. This marks a significant expansion of New York and Vulture’s already formidable criticism and coverage of Broadway and beyond. In addition to redoubling our critical reach and muscle power, we will soon revive Stage Whisperer, the theater newsletter that had a test run during the 2022 Tony Awards season."

Great news - Holdren is one of our best critics.
Wonderful news. Agree she's one of the best, if not the best, in the city right now.
Great news. We could always use more female, POC, trans, and non-binary critics in this ever-changing world.
Yes! I stopped reading Vulture’s reviews once Helen Shaw left. Thrilled Sara Holdren is back!
I'll also add, Jackson McHenry's "Stage Whisperer" newsletter was fun during last year's Tonys. Glad it's returning.

Where did she go? Her feature about the Broadway flop Dance of the Vampires is one of my favorite things Vulture has ever done.

Helen Shaw now writes for the New Yorker.
Sara Holdren left prior to Shaw’s hiring to focus on directing (her profession prior to being hired by Vulture) but now she’s back.
