Fergie was great in the movie "Nine," but Ramirez would have made a fantastic Saraghina.
And if she could do the accent, I'd love to see her play Nancy in Oliver!

I realize I'm probably committing theatre fan blasphemy here, but I just don't get Sara Ramirez.
I recognize that she's talented, but something about her really bugs me and I can't quite put my finger on it or get past it.
That said I think she'd make an very interesting Witch in Into the Woods.

Posted: 9/1/11 at 9:58amIn Oliver, Nancy is almost always cast too old, so if you're going old with the role, Sara would be a great choice. But Nancy really should be in her early 20s.

madbrian--yes, your right. Yes, I realized that. And yes, I was going for that.
I was thinking more in the Georgia Brown mode.
The problem with casting any Nancy that's genuinely young is that she usually can't play it. She hasn't lived through enough hard times to have it show in her performance. Nancy should be young in age only. She's 20 going on 45, in other words, and probably looks it as well.
It's a "fine life," indeed.

Man, she looked older than that. Definitely right for the role, then.
She looks about 45 here.

I'm not judging her performance, I'm judging her horrendous vocals, both on the cast recording and other live performances that she's done.
And I stand by my assertion that Eva Peron should, first and foremost, possess a knock 'em out, belt to the rafters voice. And, as even Roger's defenders admit, she does not have that. Her acting may be phenomenal but she does not have the vocal chops for this role. Give me Patti or Elaine Page any day.

Firstly, you didn't answer my question, but secondly:
"I'm no judging her performance, I'm judging her horrendous vocals"
Contradiction much?

Contradiction much?
Not at all. Her vocals are preserved on the cast recording and any number of live performances from various talk shows. I've not said a word about her acting, simply her screaming vocals.
And no, I did not see the London production. I thought I made that clear when I said I knew nothing about her acting.
You can go on raving about her all you want, but to even attempt to compare her vocals favorably with the likes of Patti LuPone or Elaine Page is foolhardy.

i agree that it's hard to know what role a performer may be right for before an actor has had the chance to play it, really play it.
that being said, i've never been an in the aisles - on my feet fan of ramirez, but i appreciate that this is how performers cut their teeth. - by performing roles that may just be out of their reach, by performing with players - actors who have a little more game. 'winners want the ball'
here is a little clip i've always thought was fun.

Posted: 9/1/11 at 2:37pmElena Roger's vocals on the London cast recording of Evita are hideous to say the least.

she sings her ballsnoff and makes it look so easy.
that said, she is completely wrong physically to play the tiny eva peron. if she got very skinny and they cast a really tall Peron, maybe...but the real Eva was very slight. Sara's probably got 8" on her.

Can we all just agree that Mandy Gonzalez should be playing Eva, and move on with our lives?
Here she is performing Rainbow High with Seth Rudetsky. Even underrehearsed and half-serious, you can tell she'd be terrific.
Mandy

Posted: 9/1/11 at 2:55pmIsn't Mandy going to be doing An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Gonzalez this fall? Maybe they can do a duet on Rainbow High.

Posted: 9/1/11 at 3:17pmApparently, Ramirez is more like 3.5 inches taller than Eva.

adamgreer, I have not raved about her once in this thread. Nor have I attempted to compare her to either Patti LuPone or Elaine Paige. From my comments, I haven't even expressed whether I like her or not.
And since her vocals ("horrendous" or otherwise) are part of her performance, yes you are judging her performance.

eva peron, IIRC, was not much over 5 feet tall.
isn't sara ramirez about 5'8" or 5'9"?
if not, my bad.
Sara Ramirez Singing #44
Posted: 9/1/11 at 4:49pmYes, Sara is 5'9". She wears huge heels a lot too, although I know that would not be part of most stage wardrobe.

I just did a quick google search, which put Eva at 5' 5" and Sara at 5' 8.5".
I didn't investigate the sources, though, so I have no idea how accurate the info is.
Sara Ramirez Singing #46
Posted: 9/1/11 at 8:19pmI think Sara likes her TV money and schedule. I don't see her returning to the boards until she's hard up. She wasn't known for her work ethic so I think she will take her time returning.

Umm, HOW? One has the right to judge her vocals alone on a professional cast recording. How is that judging her performance in the theater?
And I'll say it as well, her vocals are GOD AWFUL on that atrocious recording.

That is clearly what you were hinting at. Let's settle for 'judging her vocal performance."
