Posted: 6/17/05 at 12:47pmok, so i know that im going to get a lot of people yelling at me, but i went to see spamalot the other night (to see tim curry who dissappointingly wasnt there! grrr) and im thinking, ok they had this cast with all these guys in it so they hired a woman- what woman? the one with the biggest boobs, not necessarily the best singer. i was kinda disappointed. thoughts?

First off, before people jump all over you, its spelled Sara. [Ive misspelled things before and faced the wrath.]
I adored Sara in the show, and her voice was astonishing. However, everyone is entitled to their opinion.:)

Posted: 6/17/05 at 12:52pmI liked her as well, and I'm the first to point out someone who I think is overrated. But alas, I think Ramirez is the real deal. Does she run the risk of being overhyped like Idina Menthol or Shoshana Bean-Curd, sure. But she steals a lot of Spamalot from the men. Not an easy task.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 12:54pmnot necessarily the best singer? My thought would be that you're a bit of an idiot, arish.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 1:16pmWhen I saw the show I couldn't have told if Sara Ramirez was flat chested or gave Dolly Parton a run for her money. Why? Because I was knocked out by her fabulous voice. Your comment that they just picked the woman with the biggest breasts was both reductive and rather rudely phrased.

Finally, a thread about Sara Ramirez. I was afraid I was the only one who knew who she was.
FANTASTIC PERFORMER.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 2:55pmI saw Spamalot twice and I had heard rave reviews about Sara before I went so I had high expecations and in my opinion she exceeded them. She was amazing. Not only does she have a great voice with a lot of range, but her comedic ability was incredible. I understand the show isn't for everyone, but even most people who didn't enjoy the show felt Sara was amazing in it.

After hearing her on the Tonys (a performance that I felt was vocally off) I listened to the cd and felt the same way. There are parts (like the scatting) where I really like her voice, but there are just some parts where her voice bugs me.
Not everyone has to like everyones voice. I know plenty of people who don't like Barbra, Judy, ect. It doesn't mean there an idiot. Just means they have different tastes.

Was she not good at the Tony's? I has never heard her before...and I thought she was amazing. If that's not her best, then she must be unbelievable. Her Tony performance BLEW me away.
Wasn't she sick at the Tony's? :-/

Posted: 6/17/05 at 3:47pmWhat's the deal with people talking about her boobs now??? I find that somewhat offensive. She is an amazingly talented woman, with or without her cleavage. geez!
#16re: Sarah Ramirez??
Posted: 6/17/05 at 3:51pmI've really sat on my hands trying to stay out of the whole "BOOBS/Ramirez" thing but I've had enough. Now, being that I was a fan long before the rest of you joined the Ramirez train, I can, with some authority say, that unless she's had a boob job, she is NOT, nor has she ever been, well endowed in the chest region. So costuming tricks aside, and poor choice of clothing for the Tonys aside as well, she did NOT get the job bc she's got big boobs, she got it bc she has a big voice. Not an elightened thing to say.

Fascinating Rhythm, Class Act and Cape Man put together, probably ran for a shorter amount of time than Spam's Chicago stint alone. I agree she sounded off on the Tonys and clearly has been missing a ton of shows but it's more because she hasn't figured out how to negotiate the rigors of a healthy run. Someone should have thought about that and given her a decent stand-by as she obviously needs one.

>>Originally, Sara was only going to sing the part and another actress was going to do the rest. Then something happened with the other actress and they gave Sara the entire role.<<
Not true
She always had Lady of the Lake, there was another female role that was in the show and she was given those duties in addition to Lady of the Lake. The other role Which included a witch and a cow where cut in Chicago.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 5:15pmThe witch scene actually wasn't bad, it just went on too long. If the song had been cut in half it would have been perfect. The Cow Song just didn't work at all.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 6:15pmim not trying to demean her, i guess what i meant to say originally is that i have more of a problem with the part than the actress- she has a good set of pipes, and i agree with Al dente, shes obviously tackling health issues. i guess me and my friend when we saw it were comparing it to the other featured actress roles. we've seen them all, and although sara was good, we were not sure we'd put her on the very top of the list. also, am i the only one who is mad that christian borle didnt get nominated??

the one with the biggest boobs, not necessarily the best singer.
See, I thought the most noteworthy thing about her performance was her voice. She can REALLY sing, and she's quite a ham, but I didn't really agree with the Tony win. I felt like the part was really obnoxious, though that's not her fault, per se. I don't know, I just don't think she's worth all the hype, save for her vocals.

Posted: 6/17/05 at 6:25pmi agree with you luvtheemcee, you said what i meant better than i said it. i misrepresented myself. the part didnt exactly fit into monty python. i think thats what i had a problem with. i think that the featured actress category this year was slim pickins in general. i mean joanna gleason was fantastic, and probably would be my first choice except she wasnt enough in the show to validate a win. sherie renee scott was in DRS as much as sara was in spamalot, so maybe if she was nominated as featured, she would have won. but she didnt have a chance in the category she was nominated.
