They never had a deal. It was in shaky ground months after it had been announced. As to 200 million, it started as being reported as 100 million and now is being reported as an "up to 200 million" deal. So who knows what was really being considered.

The Met was in a state of financial crisis before this illusory deal popped like a bubble.

There was also the last year's incident with one of the managing directors of the Met's board who promised a $10mil donation but was later exposed to be a fraud and was stealing vast sums of money from various wealthy individuals he ingratiated himself with.

"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

They're trying to! But the murals would remain in place with a name plaque during the Met's producing season.

Renting out the hall won't solve all their financial problems but they should start aggressively renting. Match the rates of the Koch and David Geffen and say yes to anyone who can afford it.

It would be better for the Met to close than to get in bed with Saudi money. It's incredibly ****ed up that they were even entertaining it.
