Saw Wicked!

I saw Wicked last night with a friend and the show was absolutely phenomenal! I don't think it's going to go down as one of the great classic musicals like Gypsy, Sweeny, etc. but for the pure entertainment value of it all I really enjoyed it.

Idina is going to win the Tony this year, it's as simple as that. Kristen is great as she always is but Idina definitely has the major role and a better chance to flex her chops.

I've waited many years to see Joel Gray on stage again, and I must say that I was disappointed. He needs more to do and 'Wonderful' needs some work.

Glad you liked it! I hope Idina wins a Tony. She is great! She should just win a Tony for wearing all that green makeup every night. Can't wait for the OBCR.

Looking forward to seeing Wicked! How much flying happens in the show? Do monkeys fly over the audience, as was speculated during another thread?

22 days and counting!

From what I have heard my cash is also on Idina to take home a Tony. She's phenomenal, pure and simple. As I've said before, she's got fire in the belly!

I'm so glad you had a great time and that you were thoroughly entertained.

i dont know when i will get to see it but, i can not wait! And it's about time Idina won!! she was snubbed in 1996.

When Robert Morse played the Wizard in SF, I had the same feeling as the comment about Joel Grey. He needed more to do. His role was rather limited. However, I loved the show and felt the Tony might come down to Idina and Kristin with Idina probably having the edge. Reminds me of the competition between Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in The Producers -- two worthy performances but only one could win.

Of all the shows I want to see this year.
WICKED is the one I want to see more then anything.
THE BOY FROM OZ is the next
and AVENUE Q.

But I go to the website of WICKED just to hear the little snippets of music in the beginning.

John, I hate those snippets. They're not right. I think they commericialized the music for radio broadcast in an attempt to appeal to those who are not "Broadway Enthusiasts". Yuck.

WICKED is at the top of my list. I am going to NYC in Jan and my list is:
1) Wicked
2) LSOH
3) The Producers
4) Nine
5) Mamma Mia

I saw it in previews in SF, and I agree that at least at that point, the Wizard part needed some work. His solo was somewhat tedious, and then he was a bit underplayed in general.

I enjoyed Wicked, but I didn't think it was extraordinary. The cast was excellent, the sets are fun, but it's a bit... I don't know if cutesy is the right word.

I have a question about the Gershwin theatre. I heard the seats are really bad and that's it hard to see from a lot of places. I found seats for the front row of the rear mezzanie (row G), how are they?

Get as close as possible. The house is a huge barn. In some theaters, you can see from the back of the balcony. Forget about it at the Gershwin. I wonder what the Tee shirts look like.

I go to the website for the music snippets at the beginning, also. Refresh...refresh...refresh! Even if they did change them around, I still enjoy them.

I went to "Sing-A-Long Wizard Of Oz" at the Gershwin, and I had Center Row G orchestra. Get them. They're a phenomenal view.

I saw the matinee of Wicked today! The sets which sprawl out onto the sides of the theater are phenomenal! Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth do an outstanding job. The songs are very good in the first act, with the final act 1 song, "defying gravity," sung by idina, a truly thrilling moment in the show, pumping me up for the second act. However, in my opinion, the second act is lacking in any good songs at all. There's nothing paticularly memorable sung in the second act. Kristin gets the opening song, but it turns into more of an ensemble song, and she never gets another solo in the second act! She gets a short reprise, and I expected a lot more from Idina's 11 o'clock number! Especially after seeing "defying gravity" performed just an hour earlier. The love duet between Idina and Norbert Leo Butz was just so ordinary and nothing special. After the first act I expected better from the score. That said, I thought the book was wittier and more clever in the second act. Just my opinion. I am rooting for the show! When the show ended and the curtain came up, practically the whole audience lep to its feet. I had to stand just to see the people on stage. I don't think the show, as is, deserved an audience leaping to their feet, but idina and kristin certainly deserved it...they were great.:)
Again, just my opinion..

Hmm, for you guys talking about the competition between Cheno and Idina, isnt' Idina the lead and Cheno is a supporting character. I mean, really, its about the wicked witch of the west, not glinda, am I right? I haven't seen the show yet, but I'm just guessing. I'm really excited to see the show, I'm seeing it opening night and the 31st. Rock on, haha.

Actually, Idina and Kristin bow together, so I would say that they have about the same size role. As for Joel Grey, I have heard many different opinions. I'm a huge fan of Wicked and can't wait to see the show. I just started the book yesterday.

Someone said Idina's name is slightly higher and to the right on the Marquee, whatever that means.

Yay glad to hear that it's good. I'm seeing it in early November and I can't wait!!! They were the first tickets I ordered for my next weekend in NYC. I'm so excited to see it. =)
