She's got other plans for the spring.

She does? What's Sean got cooking?

Half of this is correct, the other half, not. That's all I can say at the moment.
It's 'Johansson.'
This would definitely be interesting with either one of them (although I'd be more excited about seeing her).
I would be SO interested to see her in this...also super excited for the possibility of a revival. I love me some Promises, Promises.

Well, I hope it's true that she has other plans for the spring because she would keep me from seeing this. Sean Hayes, on the other hand, I adore.
I have to agree ^ I don't think much of Johannsen as an actress.

There will be a press release in the coming months if all goes as planned... and I'll leave you with this (cause I can definitely get in trouble for spilling to much: It'll be JUST peachy with one of the two aforementioned, and another that probably won't even be guessed but will be stellar casting.
Just say what everyone's been able to read into it by now: Scarlet's not doing it, Sean is. I hate you "people in the know" who play such a coy game with obvious things. It's not exactly earth-shattering news to anyone except Sean Hayes fans, "Will and Grace" fans, and those rare people who get Sean on their radar after his performance as Applegate.
Wasn't Anne Hathaway attached to this potential revival of 'Promise, Promises'? Didn't she do a reading last year with Sean Hayes??
Not Johansson. Or Hathaway. Or Deschanel for that matter.
Yeah, reports keep coming out that it's Sean Hayes and Hathaway, Hayes and Johannson, Hayes and Deschanel...The only name that keeps coming up is Hayes so I imagine he is attached to this. I do wonder who they'll get to play Fran, as that is my favorite role in PROMISES, PROMISES. How exciting!

Wait when you say "SHE" you DON'T mean Sean Hayes?

Sean Hayes and Anne Hathaway did a full production type reading which got rave reviews. I think that Anne Hathaway is kind of busy with her film work so maybe they are having difficulties with schedule, etc. Can't wait to see Sean Hayes in this project. Sounds very "promising", no pun intended!

To play Fran you don't need a dynamite actress. A good one will do. However you do need a dynamite singer. It is a real singer's part. The role is written for a singer with a great belt and a better-than-average head voice.
Chuck needs to be a terrific comic actor with good dramatic instincts and a good musical sense. The actor does not have to be a terrific singer.
Could Scarlett sing it? Who can?
Trivia time - when a movie version was being batted around in the late 60s-early 70s, their first choice was Barbra. Of course, Barbra was first choice for everything. I think she was even attached to it briefly.
Fran is an extremely tricky role.
Kerry O'Malley sang the hell out of it when she played the part in the Encores! production some time ago, but she was completely dead in the eyes when required to emote... anything. If her acting ability would have matched her dynamite voice, it could have been one hell of a performance.
Scarlett Johansson actually seems much more appropriate for the show to me than Anne Hathaway, though I doubt she'd take a significant amount of time to do theater at this point in her film career.

Well, she is doing A theater piece.
I didn't realize O'Malley had played the role at Encores! I thought Christine Baranski had played the part for some reason, what part did she play?
Baranski was Marge MacDougall. I enjoyed that Encores production very much, but Baranski really walked away with it, for the 10-15 minutes or so that she was onstage.
I like Scarlett as an actress, but I don't think her voice is that strong enough if the role is that vocally challenging.
I'd love to see Sean back on the stage though!
I don't care much for Scarlett, but you know that her gorgeous hubby Ryan Reynolds would come and visit her... Hm.

"For the present, Ashford has more immediate Broadway plans: 'I'm going to be doing this revival of Promises, Promises in January. Sean Hayes has the male lead, and the girl is... not quite signed yet, but somebody really good.'"
YES!!!!!!!! I just hope Ashford uses the original Michael Bennett choreography for "Turkey Lurkey Time".
