I've been a Mel B fan since 1997 and I think she is the best Spice Girl out there. I'm glad she is doing "Rent" and I hope she does a good job. The actual play itself will be here next week in Albuquerque but too bad Mel isn't going to be in this one.
i guess the 2 i listed werent enough. ok, anyone in that hyena suit in lion king, the chorus dancers in millie, all of the dancing costumed people in beauty. the chorus dancers in 42nd street. the role of mimi is not demanding as she really only has one "dance " number, (which really consists of her doing a couple of steps on the railing and one high kick), and the rest is normal stage movement. she also has plenty of time offstage. its really not demanding at all. as for singing, she sings one full solo song and the rest are song parts or with the group. as parts on bway go, mimi isnt demanding at all. i would be willing to say that one show for a lead dancer at movin out is like a week of mimi performances.
OMG! This news means nothing to me because I know I will not get to see the show on Broadway. Well, I just realized that I will be seeing RENT on Broadway April 16th, Melanie's first performance. That is kind of exciting. This will be my first show on Broadway and I hope she is good.
Going back to the age thing for a second... I really do think Daphne was 27 when she did rent. Now unless imdb is lying too she was born in 1969 making her 27 when rent opened. and about 34 or 35 now...hardly near 40 yet
good lord, people, Daphne is NOT 50, or 60, or however old you guys say she is now!! Why is it so impossible to believe she was 27 in 1996? That age sounds about right to me. I just wish people would leave Daph alone and sto pacting like shes some kind of dinosaur!! She's damn sexy, no matter how old she really is =)
NYStateofmond04 - Don't worry, people have been saying this is RENT's "last year" for about 5 years now. The closing rumers will never end!! Of course, at some point in the future, it will be true that RENT really will be in it's last year, but thats not for a while. Trust me, I just saw the show last week and it's in amazing shape!!!!
I for one and very excited about Mel joining the cast, and I just wish i could go up to NYC to see her!! oh well...
Don't be naive, Princess. Just because it's an 'ongoing' rumor, doesn't mean it's not likely to happen. And back to Daphne. She's not a spring chicken. But she's gorgeous, an awsome performer, and a good person. Leave it at that.

Like I have been saying, I LOVE RENT! But it cannot last forever. I honestly feel that is will close in the next year or two. That's the life of Broadway...unfortunately.
after seeing those pics and having had seen her recently in person, all i can say is that she has a very forgiving photographer or a great makeup artist.
I will say that Matt Caplan HAS been in Rent for close to five years, but if he's not leaving by his own choosing in the fall, that is kinda not cool. Shoved to the side once for money is one thing. Twice... I don't know.
