I'm rather indifferent here. I'm not quite sure what to expect from her. I'll admit I was a big Spice Girls fan back in the day. It's kinda funny to picture her and Jeremy Kushnier as a couple though.
I dont think its that big of a deal for "scary spice" to be cast. Sure, rent was "supposed" to be for real-unknowns...but as long as Melanie Brown can play the role well and act well, why does it matter?
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
scary spice starts rehearsals on monday and will go into the show april 16th. the producers are also in talks with jessica simpsons husband to be roger starting in september
I was the biggest Spice Girl fan. When they were really popular I was 11 or 12. I even had the Spice Girl lollypops with stickers lol. I think she will be ok in the role but why are they always casting the "17 year old" Mimi with women in there late 30's?
I find this thread to be ridiculous! So what if she is Scary Spice? Haven't the Spice Girls combusted? Are they going to bill her as Scary Spice? I don't think so. Please you guys, give it a rest. You're killin' me.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."
That would be funny...Jessica Simpson could come to Rent and they would be taping Newleyweds and we would see Jessica Simpson saying "I don't get this. What happened to that guy who helps Collins at the beginning and where did that drag queen come from?"

Jessica can sit on my lap and I will explain to her what is going on.
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher

I don't know how I feel about this whole "Scary Spice" thing...but I say...WHATEVER they gotta do to raise money and draw in new audiences that will come back continuously even when the "stars" are gone...is okay by me! Sell the tickets, fill the seats, and keep Rent alive no matter what. (And in the meantime...keep looking for those new up and comers!)
STOP ragging on Daphne. When you're that gorgeous...who really cares how old you are??? She could say she's a 25 year old fairy with magical powers and that would be totally okay!
First thing - just a warning. This board is going to be FLOODED with Spice Girls fans, lol! Trust me.......
Secondly, i know quite a bit about Mel and i can give you a bit of information!
"Can she act?". Yes. I think so. Probably. PLEASE do not judge her on Spiceworld: The Movie! Since her solo career failed to take off in 2001, she has moved into acting. She said that she doesnt wanna be pre-occupied with the celeb circut, she wants to work hard and learn the art. People say a lot about the Spice Girls, but you cannot criticise their workrate and willingness to suceed! Mel starred in a short film called fish in 1999 and won acclaim for her choice; she played an unglamourous mother working in a fish and chip shop in northern england. the critics were impressed.
Late 2002/early 2003 she landed a role in a british horror movie called Lethal Dose (LD50). It hasnt been released yet, and is scheduled for a UK release this spring. She has also just finished a movie called The Seat Filler with Kelly Rowland from Destinys Child.
Mel also starred in the West End in London last year in The Vigina Monologues (please - someone pass me a dictionary!), and took it on tour around Britain.
Im glad people, on the whole, are giving her a chance! People remember the 'loud black girl with a fit ass' from the Spice Girls - she by her own admitance she has calmed down and trying seriously to learn her craft. And she has tried her best to stay out of the media to concentrate on it!
BTW - the spice girls are in talks for a comeback world tour, and greatest hits release that will earn them a cool £10MILLION EACH! Cant be bad....
RnBJunkie's reply was quite informative. I need to add that Melanie B is only 28 and not 30-something like many of you thought.
I heard "Mimi" is arguably the most physically demanding role on Broadway these days so the fact that Mel is up for such a tough work deserves admiration. Hopefully she will do an excellent job yet again.
yes cause doing "out tonight" and then walking back and forth for a while is much more demanding than dancing in moving out or dancing around in a teacup costume in beauty. Mimi is hardly physically demanding compared to alot of other current roles.
