CATSNY--"RENT was always intended to feature new up-and-coming talent"-- were you friends with Jonathan Larson? Daphne was involved with RENT from the get-go....and yes- she was much older than publicized but boy didn't she look fierce?!

I was never a friend of Jonathan's. Only a select few of us had that pleasure. But, I have read the book of RENT and it doesn't seem to me that it was ever meant to feature "star casting" in this way. I think it takes away from the message when someone goes to see the show just because some celebrity they like is in it. RENT isn't about that, and it pains me that the producers continue to possibly hurt the reputation of the show by using people who could possibly "kill" the show....I mean I too laughed when I saw this headline. It's not right. But maybe it is... who knows maybe she'll pull it off...

I liked the "unknown talent" in RENT. It seemed to fit the show more. Not to say Scary Spice can't pull it off, she may be amazing, who knows...I absolutely adore RENT but I think its time is running out.

Daphne was NOT the oldest ever to play Mimi on broadway. Not very long ago one of the girls who played Mimi was just pushing forty.

Now- I don't know how I feel about Scary Spice being Mimi. I've heard this rumor countless times, and to hear that it is finally going to happen...that's kind of scary. I think she could probably pull it off, and I'm quite curious to see her.


How this will affect RENT??? Well, it'll be another Joey Fatone flock of teeney boppers who want to see stars from old boy/girl groups. Ticket sales will go up.
