Scott's ...WORSHIP ME Headed to Broadway?

Sherie Rene Scott said in a recent interview with ATW's Downstage Center that several commercial producers are interested in "definitely bringing" her solo show, YOU MAY NOW WORSHIP ME, to Broadway.
She went as far as to say that "it's looking VERY good to happen in the fall, but if not, the spring."
This is the first I've heard of the show having an immediate life beyond it's previous benefit incarnation.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Would such a thing sell?
I can't see there being enough of an audience to make this last more than a week (and I love Sherie Renee Scott).

It'll obviously have low running costs, and word-of-mouth will be good for it.

I was just listening to the interview and was thinking the same thing...I hope that this is true: she is so talented.
I do think adam has a point, she is famous but i don't know how many people who don't love her would see it.

I would love to see it.
But no one knows her outside of the Broadway community. And don't even try to argue that.

Posted: 5/25/08 at 1:43pmYou know, she might not need an audience outside the Broadway community. I mean, the show would be really cheap to produce (minimal set, one actor) and would be a limited run (Sherie probably couldn't or wouldn't do a solo show for more than 2 months.) Broadway fans might be all she needs...

Posted: 5/25/08 at 2:05pmChanging the title would be a good start. A general audience would have to think of it as a show with universal appeal rather than a show about an actress they don't know.

How many people really knew who Mario Cantone was? Sex & the City obviously increased his audience, but for the most part, the average middle American wouldn't recognize the name. And as far as I know, Laugh Whore wasn't a COMPLETELY miserable flop.
This would be great in a limited-run, small theatre setting.

Perhaps it'll be something along the lines of Patti LuPone's "Matters of the Heart" or Brian Stokes Mitchell's "Love/Life" concert series, a once or twice a week type deal? I'm pretty sure that commercial producers would realize that the appeal for a full run is pretty limited. After all, its not exactly as if Sherie is a multiple time Tony winner or household name.
But who knows, stranger things have happened.

Posted: 5/25/08 at 7:21pmIt could work as a 1 or 2 night a week show. Perhaps they could do it downstairs in the Newhouse?
