lol. My sister and I went to see the tour together and the people around us were annoyed by us singing that song with the cast... lol I don't blame them. lol. We weren't being very quiet...

You are in school and NOT sure if you should audition for a show or not? Are you going to be this pickey in the real world? Maybe you should re-think your profession.
Audition for all you can and get the most experience you can on you resume.
GO FOR IT.

Seussical is a fun show with a great score. It can be really good if staged well, but really awful if not. There's not a lot of middle ground. I think its biggest problem was the book and trying to link the stories together with The Cat in the Hat coming out (supposedly as Emcee, but not really) and doing sight gags for no apparent reason. Had it been a review of Seuss material, I think it would have been far more successful.

Well first of all....I'm not pursuing theater as my profession in life :) It's just something fun I like to do. I don't take acting/singing/dancing lessons....I just do theater as a hobby. I don't know anything about the musical (aside from Dr. Seuss), hence why I asked if its a big cast, fun music, etc. You people sure are cranky
You know, I've always been a huge Dr. Seuss fan, but the year it played Broadway, I saw the segment they did for the Thanksgiving Day Parade (I can't stand it when people call it the Macy's day parade - sheer stupidity)..anyway - after seeing the awful number they did during the parade, I just couldn't bring myself to see the show.
I haven't seen the show but I've heard the CD. Didn't do much for me.
What song did they perform for the Thanksgiving Day Parade??? Was it "A Day For the Cat in the Hat"? Cuz' that got cut anyway...
I have no idea - but the lead singer was a big black belter and there were these three dancing monkeys and it was just a mess (not to take anything away from their talent - it wasn't about that) the number was a big mess and not interesting at all.

OhSoWicked, I saw Seussical and I loved it. It's big, bright, and fun. The score has a number of great songs. It takes alot of imagination to put the show on. I loved it..seems like I'm one of the few.

I was in it this summer, having heard none of the CD... I personally didn't like some of my director's choices with costumes and the overall look of the show, but I still had fun doing it. The score's really catchy too (my friends were singing Notice Me Horton and Here on Who for a long time after). I agree, there's not a lot of middle ground- it's either great or terrible. I heard the CD after the show ended and hated it; I think it sounds really childish and I don't listen to it much.
I say go for it. I did not get a chance to see it but I enjoy the Broadway Cast Recording. Love the song Alone in the Universe.
Seussical is a very fun, family friendly musical, which is what the creators set out to make. It has a score that represents all styles of music from R&B to vaudeville. Try out for it.... its a great show to strecth your imagination and just be crazy in. Personally, I think its a great piece.... but if you have a stong aversion to the contant rhyme of Dr. Seuss, i wouldnt recommend it.
In short.... audition. If you get in, youll have a lot of fun with it.
P.S. I saw Seussical and I remember them performing A day for the Cat in the Hat so I dont think it was cut
A Day For the Cat in the Hat was cut from the tour. It was in the Broadway production when I saw it, but not the tour.

oh, ok.... thanks
I actually thought that number worked well in the show... why did they cut it?

All the cuts were made to streamline the script. Anything that didn't highlight the boy/elephant relationship got cut.
And...it is the above statement that is a reason why I don't like the show...it has a boy...and an elephant...and they're friends. And it's not fun...it's kind of retarded.
And while some of the music is nice...the music doesn't hit home ever...and neither does the book. It's a kids show.
But, audition...cause there is nothing more fun to do on stage than play with other actors during a kids show.
My high school is doing it this year, and it's a fun show to be in, but not a great show to watch. lol

I didn't see it, but I fell in love with the music. I think it's a great score and would be so much fun to perform. I'm a giant Dr. Seuss fan though.
Not that it should mean anything, but Dr. Seuss's wife came to see the show opening night on BWay and said the show did her husband's memory honor. That doesn't mean it's a good show, but it makes me smile :)
I saw the Cathy Rigby tour, minus Cathy Rigby. I was blown away. Garrett Long, who played Gertrude McFuzz, is one of the best performers that I have ever seen. She's amazing. She was trained at Shenandoah Conservatory, one of my top choices.
Coincidence: This summer, I saw an amateur production of Seussical. It was spectacular. Guess where? Shenandoah Conservatory! It proved that the show is great, because it worked without all of the professional broadway sets.
In short, I love the show. Audition for it. It's so much fun and the music is outstanding. Flaherty & Ahrens, come on people.
Garrett Long
I agree about Ahrens & Flaherty. They are just fabulous.
All For You...another great song. Lots of belting, fun!
I also like the part where Horton throws up on the hunter.
my drama club is doing seussical this year for our musical...but our club doesnt really have a lot of guys in it (most of the good ones graduated last year...aww i miss them) but yeah...so i think we have enough guys for horton and that lead boy...but i dont really know much about the play...are there more guy parts that cant be substituted for girl parts?

Some cute music, very light, very family-oriented... TOO LONG! For such a kid show, it just drags on and on and on and on...
I'm trying out for this show in October... if I can handle doing three shows and going to school at once...
brdwaybaby17...anything goes is a really random play to know (the only reason i know about it is cause i did it last summer) but were you like in it or something? if so what part were you?
