I saw A Winter's Tale on Saturday night. Got in line a little before 1 PM and got tickets. It was ridiculous.

Any other BWWers planning on getting on line in the wee hours?

Got on line around 3 and got tickets, but by the time they got to me they only had singles left, and not even that many.

I managed to snag tickets to both shows through the virtual line, so it is indeed possible. The people around me at Merchant last week had gotten there before midnight. Just to echo the majority of people on the board- Lily Rabe is a revelation in this. She's absolutely amazing.

I got Winter's Tale through the virtual line on Saturday, but it is almost becoming a joke entering for the Merchant tickets. I am going to keep on trying the virtual lottery, but I just don't have stamina to do the actual line no matter how bad I want to see it!

I just got in from seeing "The Winter's Tale" via the virtual lottery and can report that:
1. Per one of the girls working in the box office (she was answering a question the person in front of me asked), for the most recent performance of "The Merchant of Venice", the last person on the line to get tickets was in line by 3:30am.
2. When I left the Park at 11:05, the line for tonight's performance (as it's now after midnight) was already to at least 83rd Street.
If I don't luck out on the virtual lottery for Merchant, I guess I'll be missing it! That's crazy!!

JEEZ! That is an insane report, angelplays. Can anyone say that they have seen such a huge line resopnse in recent years? I wasn't personally there to witness it, but the last time I remember hearing the line was at such magnitudes was 1995 when Patrick Stewart was in The Tempest as Prospero, and the Trekkies flew in from across the heartland to camp out.

So, the line for tonight's (Friday) show started at 10pm last night? What'd we think the line is going to look like tonight?
I was on the bus going north on CPW tonight around 6pm and I think there were some people in portable folding chairs and one blow-up mat on CPW and 81st. Do we think that was for tickets tomorrow at 1pm?

Sucks to be those people who camped out all night last night for tickets right now. This tornado warning/thunder storm definitely is not the way you want to spend your night after camping out for 14 hours for tickets...

oh my god, i completely forgot there was a show tonight! god that sucks... and it sucks for the people who are on the line right now!

How has the standby line been?

I've been trying the virtual ticket line with no luck so far. I don't care about either of these shows enough to wait in line that long for tickets even if they are free. I can't believe people actually line up this long, it's crazy.

MERCHANT is worth the crazy wait. I mean they are free tickets to see Al Pacino in a really exceptional production of a rarely done Shakespeare piece. WINTER'S TALE on the other hand is a shorter, easier line. And rightfully so. It's boring as sin.

I'm pretty sure the show is transferring, so you will get the chance to see it eventually.

What time would I have to get on line to get tickets for Winter's Tale tomorrow? Have they not been able to fill the theatre by the time they give out tickets or do you have to get there pretty early now since it is the last week?

You need to try some new sins. If yours are boring, you're just not picking the right ones.
@Just John. I've been hearing that almost everyone from the standby line for A Winter's Tale are getting in, and often singles are available just before showtime.

You're welcome. Still, earlier is always better. People start to come out of the woodwork as the end of a run draws near. I wish you good luck and good weather.

Today, a friend and I got in line for Winter's Tale at about 11:30ish. We missed the cutoff for tickets and were given vouchers. We went back at 6:30, waited and I believe that everyone who was given a voucher, got a ticket. Overall, not a bad time trying to get tickets.
From what I overheard, people had started lining up at 7pm for TOMORROW NIGHT'S performance. So yeah, I guess if you want to see Pacino, looks like you need to get out your camping gear!!
