See, H2$ has always confused me. I am always like "Something-that-starts-with-H to Dollars/Money".
I agree. Clever but too cryptic.
The only abrreviation I can't stand in N2N. But I regularly say:
Streetcar
Caroline
Sunday in the Park
Sweeney
August
Night Music
Phantom
Fiddler
the one about the obnoxious green witch

Yes MusicSnob1, I am aware of that now. But the first time I saw it, I could not for the life of me figure it out.
I'm sure people will be using LND in a few months when referring to Love Never Dies. Or I guess the more precise version is P:LND.
Even though i am used to "text language" like this, it annoy me too. It is just to hard to decode some of these. BatB always makes me think of Batboy

Hat tip to orangeskittles, who was indeed the first to start a thread on this topic.
I personally prefer B^3 (read: B cubed) as the abbreviation for Bye Bye, Birdie. [end sarcasm]
I have no problem with text speak. Personally I don't use it anymore but, I am not going to throw a fit or be mad if I do get a text form someone that does write in text speak it doesn't irk me or anything like that.
I do however, have a problem with people using it in a message board or an email where there is no limit on how many characters you can use and you have all the time in the world to respond. With that being said, I feel that using shorthand in those situations is a sure sign of being lazy. That is why I loath when people write in shorthand and use abbreviations for show titles rather then just taking the time to spell them out.

I just assumed most were familiar with the rather iconic logo design from the revival.
M = Mame
P = Passion
F= Follies
C= Company
G = Gypsy
And if anyone asks for favorite musical MPFCG will do
Except for me, Mister Matt. I was going to ask what H2$ was, but I decided not to bother since some of the others in here confuse me as well.

For over three decades, people got along fine calling it "How to Succeed", or even just "How To".
See, there is a difference in typing something out, and speaking. On a forum I may type "Off to see ITH" because it's faster. However, when talking to someone I'll simple refer to the show as Heights.
Someone may type BBB, but they wont actually say "Bee Bee Bee" in a conversation. They'll say "Birdie".
On the other hand, for Rock Of Ages, I'll type out ROA, and when talking to someone I'll tend to also say "Arr Oh Ay".
Well if you people didn't spend all your time in a line for rush tickets you could afford the extra 2 seconds to type out the damn word.
^ What he said. Also, I've heard Jesus Christ Superstar variously referred to as JCS or Superstar. I stick to the former personally because the latter reminds me of that regrettable Will Ferrell/Molly Shannon movie.
I think a lot of people topped TRU.

for the fun of it...
I have been looking for a recording of an Off-Broadway review that I saw as a kid about a hundred years ago. If anyone can name the show, I'll be impressed. If anyone knows of a recording, I'll be forever grateful:

I rarely use shorthand. I occasionally use N2N for Next to Normal, but only on a forum for that show where people definitely know what it means. It took me forever to figure out that POTO stood for Phantom of the Opera. I'm waiting for a show to come along that spells something really bad with its initials.

So is Nine, 9 or N?
I love this thread. Mostly because it reminds me of community theatre folks who think they know everything about theatre...ala Waiting For Guffman...as in "When Corky did Barefoot." Snobbery and hidden meanings are supposed to make other "regular people" feel stupid. OMG you don't know what SA stands for? What about AI...not the tv show...the new show by Green Day.
If you decide to use your own cocked up abbreviations, great...but you run the risk that other people might not understand you. It should be the job of the writer or speaker that his/her audience understands what their message is. The fault should never be on the audience, but of the writer.
I'll admit I do say N2N and SA but that's it...
