anyone know the date? Thanks!
Oh Bobby, thank you for that.
Better yet, when will close?
Why does everyone hate Wicked? I think it is a jolly good peice of musical theatre. Just the last two Elphaba's may not be typical "Broadway" singers. I think the show would be GREAT if they brought Stephanie J. Block to the Broadway cast. She sounds Broadway-ish.
I will personally show up the day it closes to dance outside the stage door singing "Ding dong, the wicked witch is dead."

People can be such "haters". I can see not liking a show, but the unbridled hatred displayed by some people is outrageous. The negativity astounds me sometimes.
HOLD UP
wait wait wait, hyprechet, since when do the voices of Broadway have to be "Broadway-ish". I don't think it's that they don't sound like classic Broadway actresses, everyone here is pretty good on accepting unique voices. Something tells me it's just the whole show itself, or their belting days, and the hype, not because they don't have "Broadway" voices. Because really, what is a Broadway voice?
In defense of Shoshan Bean, who is 100000000 times better than Idina, she can do basically anything. She hits high notes with belting and without belting, and she was great in Hairspray.
Okay kids. Wicked isn't bad, but it isn't the high art you all hold it up to be. Any Wicked thread like this is open to scrutiny.
I like Wicked, but I don't think it's the best. My opinion of the best is Porgy and Bess. I'm just defending Shoshana Bean.
" Just the last two Elphaba's "
There have only been two....
Shoshana can sing fine - but she doesn't have the power or emotion.
Anyway, I still wanna see Megan and Ben - and of course, Rue.

mikewood,
People think it's hip to bash Wicked. Frankly, I find the putdowns stale, snooze-worthy and unoriginal but hey, some people still think they're being clever and hip! In reality, they comes across to me as more obsessed with the show than its lovers. :-P This is coming from a COC fan too. :-P

Personally, I'm still waiting for the day when Kristin and Idina return, if possible.

I knew that within the first 2 posts on this thread someone would be mean....no one would say this about any other show...I think some people are just upset to see a show do so well...dont ask me why...anyway, this thread had nothing to do with thinking "wicked is the best show ever"...just a simple question....and im defending shoshana too...i saw her 3 weeks ago...best performance i have ever seen...and ive seen many many shows
Kristin's on to better things now.

You would think her last day would be Wednesday, Janurary 11,2006. Being that 1/11/05 was her offical opening day as Elphaba, that is exactly one year. And reading through this post,"What is a broadway voice"? That`s a rather interesting question if you ask me. I don`t think there is such a thing as a "broadway" voice. Anyone who sings is going to have a different voice than the next person. I think people see the typical broadway singer as a large woman who sings opera. That is not true. God gave us all talents and those of us with musical abilities, he gave us our singing voice,so be proud of what you have because there is something you can do that someone else can`t because it`s your OWN voice.
Shoshana is way too different from Idina to possibly compare the two.

whats with all the wicked haters? gee whiz u dont like a musical dont go haten on the people that enjoy it!
Exactly theatrefanatic exactly. Just because Shoshana doesn't have voice like...I dunno, Ethel Merman, does not mean she's not a Broadway singer. People seem to think that that's why some BWWers don't like Wicked.
whatyouown...I dont think she's different. I just think she's better.

Number 1, I think your member name if fab.
Number 2, YOU are absolutely right.
WICKED bashers=Obsessed ones themselves
If she doesn't extend, it would be January 8, 2006 (Sunday).
I think Ben Vereen will leave that day also--it's on his website, providing the two don't extend.

Are you kidding me? Listen to Sho's singing voice, then listen to Idina's. They are MILES apart, and I'm not talking about how good they are. I happen to prefer Idina's voice. Just listen to her singing Imagine by the Beatle's. I love her singing that.

Nice. That'll give me some time to catch Shosanna's Elphaba. I've been lucky enough to see Idina's amazing performance and will be seeing Stephanie's interpretation next month!
And I seriously don't think Wicked will be closing soon, if the box office numbers have anything to do with it. It still has a huge following, even if there are some bashers.

hmmmmmmm dunno, I Shosh can sing anything Idina can only better...

I prefer Idina over Shoshana. I have heard sound clips and bytes so my judgement is limited but i am blown away by Idina and moderately impressed by shoshana. I've kept my mouth shut on this subject for a while but the bitching on this board is getting disgusting. If you don't like a performer you don't like them... but why slate them? Let's see Idina has broadway, film and t.v credits to her name... a tony and nominations galore... yup she must be so bad. Seriously have a little thought when posting because it sounds like a bunch of jealous and callous 14 year olds bitching about their fave spice girl or something!
