As a drama major in college, Robin did many plays and received a full scholarship to Juliard. He did a well received production of Godot at Lincoln Center and created the leading role in a Pulitzer nominated play on Broadway. He has many friends in the NY theater community and of course he deserves this honor. It doesn't take anything away from anyone else.

I personally wouldn't have pegged him as a person for whom Broadway would dim its lights, but I think it's a lovely tribute to him that they are. I see where lovebway is coming from, but there's no point in complaining it. It's a big honor being given in the memory of a well-loved stage AND screen performer.

The lights were dimmed for Mr. Williams for the same reason they will be when Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks pass. Although none are traditional stage actors, neither appearing in several productions nor originating an iconic role in addition to his hollywood roles. They are each considered the greatest actors of all time, and will be honored as such.

Also just so people are aware, Mr. Williams put many students through Juilliard for free with a scholarship he created. I'm very glad they dimmed the lights for this man.
