Alright I do realize that these topics are quite common on here and for that I appologize, but I am going to ask something a little different, I will be going to NY in July and have time to see 5 shows, these are the shows that I think I have chosen
- Next to Normal
- 9 to 5
(^these two i am certain i will see)
and I was thinking about these other two:
- Shrek
- Billy Elliot
Now the reason for my post is i was wondering if anyone has any particular reasons why i shouldn't see any of the shows i chose and if someone can suggest another show to see perhaps with a certain reason why they recommend that show.
I have been looking into seeing one of the following:
Hair, Guys and Dolls, Rooms, Vanities (it will have its limited run at 2nd Stage while i am there), or West Side Story
I am just having a really hard time actually deciding on what i want to see, this Broadway season seems like it has a lot of great choices of shows to see and its hard to narrow it down! haha
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I suggest you replace SHREK with HAIR.
I would do WSS and Hair instead of BE and Shrek
Ya I have been considering choosing Hair and WSS instead of those two. I have heard wonderful things about both, especially Hair.
Its such a hard decision!!
Hair over Shrek any day of the week. I'd skip Shrek altogether.

At this point in time, HAIR is the best production of the year, in my opinion.
It's a must-see. Infinitely better than SHREK.
Thanks guys!
I have another question can someone give me a reason(s) as to what exactly makes Hair so much better than Shrek?
Since we know so much about you, based on your screen name I think you should go with Shrek. Just Shrek. 5 times.

Tits and Ass.

totally appreciate the help!! haha I am not going to lie, I did go through a big Kristin faze, I am still a fan but not as hardcore as I may have been.... but thanks for the judgment!
Just looking for opinions from people who have seen the shows, not looking for people to suggest ones based on what they think i would like.
Still looking for actual opinions..... any semi intelligent ones are always appreciated :)
My point was missed. How are we to know what show you should see if we have never met you and the only thing we know about you is your screen name? Maybe you are 10, or a super-christian conservative. In that case I would not recommend Hair. Perhaps you are a 65 year old drag queen with a meth addiction. In that case you might LOVE Hair.
So, going on what we know about you, I recommended Shrek and not Hair.
SueleenGay,
I understand where you are coming from, definitely, thats why i attempted to go back and correct one of my posts, i just really want to know what people think about the shows that are on broadway right now and if they have a particular reason that they recommend one show over the other!
btw i am 20 year old female going into my third year of university for a B.S. with an Honours in Psychology, I am definitely not conservative but am also not a meth addict! :)
(I am sure none of that will be helpful, just thought i would share)
Shrek is sophomoric and lacks creativity.
Hair is beautiful, energetic, stunning and meaningful.
And the damn best looking cast (naked OR clothed) on B'way.
Don't waste your money on Shrek. See Hair.
I recommend In The Heights if you haven't already seen it!
There are also many great plays on Broadway... not sure how many will be around in July when you get there though

Sorry but that award goes to WSS and In The Heights. Those casts are incredibly good looking. I would kill to be with any one of those cast members.
But Hair is a close second (or third) with 9 to 5 by it's side.

I'm new here, but I just got back from a Broadway trip, seeing 4 shows. I may be the only person here who didn't like HAIR, but I didn't. Loved Billy Elliot though. I guess it depends what you want out of a show. I like shows that dazzle me with amazing sets, costumes, voices, dance, and ones that move me. Billy Elliot had it all, though the dancing was the most amazing. WICKED really really has it all.
This could be fun.
I would pick Hair over Shrek as well, just to put my two cents in.

Is there are particular reason you would not recommend Hair?
And i am also wondering if anyone has seen Rooms or Vanities (well last summer i guess) but if anyone has any opinions they would like to share on these.
And also would anyone recommend seeing the twelth night this summer with Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald and Raul Esparza
Thanks again for the help everyone!
