#1Should I give Wicked a second chance?
Posted: 10/23/14 at 8:33pmI saw Wicked in August 2012 and for some reason, didn't like it like others did! It seemed boring and silly and mediocre. But should I go again to get betyet seats? I think the cast was kind of mediocre as well. Everyone raves so maybe I should give it a second try?

Chances are you won't like it again. It's not for everyone. Anything drawing you to the musical now? I know people who didn't like it, went to see it, fell in love with the soundtrack, and loved it again the second time. If not, no worries! Plenty of other brilliant shows to explore!!

I concur. No need to join the throng..the opinion of masses is no more correct than yours.
Too many shows to see to give something a second chance.

If you didn't like the first time (for whatever reason) you won't likely like it this time. Plus if you decide you do want to see it again it'll be there a lot longer than most other shows on Broadway.
See ON THE TOWN instead!

Posted: 10/23/14 at 11:51pmI saw it years ago with the original cast. I didn't like it then, but it was so long ago that I actually forgot that I did not like it--that is how small an impression it made. I saw the national tour last year and thought it was horrible. I won't forget this time. Calling it "mediocre" is a compliment.

Personally Wicked is one of my favorites (cliche I know), but if you really found it boring I would go with something else. Unless you felt that it was only boring because of that cast. If that was a case, I would give it another chance!

Posted: 10/24/14 at 10:51amI love Wicked personally, but everyone has different tastes, and that's perfectly respectable. Unless you have some particular reason for seeing it again (a friend wants to go, a favorite actor is in the cast, etc), you'd probably be better off trying a different show than risking disappointment again.

Posted: 10/24/14 at 2:52pmI saw it in 2012 too and felt the same as you. Then I won tickets to it and saw it last month and it was 100 times better! The fact that I understood the whole thing helped this time, but it was also the terrific current cast. They were incredible and kept my interest. If you can go soon before they change, I think it would be a better experience.

Posted: 10/24/14 at 7:14pmThe first time I saw Wicked I sat in the very last row of the mezz. on my daughter's school trip and I had forgotten my glasses. I liked the music but was lost. I Went again last June (2013) and fell in love with the show with Lindsay Mendez and Katie Rose Clark in the cast. I have seen it multiple times since then. Wicked really plays out very differently with different people in it. Maybe give it a chance. I hear this new cast is pretty good.

Posted: 10/24/14 at 7:58pmWicked is a cute show, it isn't an artistic masterpiece, nor does it try to be. It only aims to satisfy the primary goal of theatre: to entertain. Some folks prefer the more high brow sort of thing, some prefer to stay away from the high brow sort of thing, and some like both. If Wicked wasn't your thing the first time around, try something different this time. Don't cough up the big bucks to see something you already didn't like once. That would be silly.

If you felt that you mightn't have liked it because of casting, then I would maybe give it another shot as I think that can make a big difference.
Wicked was the show that made me fall in love with musical theatre at 17. I've seen it 4 times now. The first and third time I loved it, the second time was okay (but cool because it was my first time sitting so close for a show) and the last time I almost wish I hadn't gone (although I did see my new favourite Glinda and ended up going to a few fantastic small gigs because of Boq and the Witch's Father). The two times I loved it I saw one Elphaba, who I think is amazing, and the other two times I saw a different one, who I find quite boring. I think the cast, particularly Elphaba, can make a huge difference in that show.
