Like everyone said. See the stage show first if you can. But if you haven't seen it and the movie has already come out, by all means, see the movie. But I highly recommend seeing the show. It's beautiful and entirely moving.

I mean it's based off your own personal tastes in movies and music I guess if you want to go see the movie or not. I myself would definitly recommend you go see it but that may be very biased as I adore RENT with a passion. :-P Like everyone else said, try to see the show live first to get an idea but if your like me and there's no way you could see the show live before the movie then yeah, I'd definitly go see it. Especially if you already have an interest in RENT. Anyways if this ramble made no sense, I apologize but thats just my two cents.

Posted: 6/13/05 at 11:13pmIf you like going to the movies, then by all means go see this film. Like everyone else has said go see the show at the Nederlander first. You do have from now until November 11th to see it. Seeing the live show before the film not only lets you see the story from the original point of view, but with the fact that there is no elaborate sets it lets your mind think and envision what is supposed to be in front of you. Instead of a film where everything is given to you and you are just watching something. always do original before going to the adaptation

Cathy- the movie soundtrack will be released. There have been rumors of this happening the week of Halloween, but NOTHING to confirm that is true. However, it is certain that we WILL have a movie soundtrack.

For all of you who haven't seen it, go see it before the movie comes out and you'll be glad you did. the message in the show is really important and may or may not be portrayed as well in the movie as it is in the play.

It's an interesting question, because the first time I saw RENT I saw it at the WANG Center in Boston, and subsequently everytime thereafter I've seen it I went to the Nederlander Theatre. I wish I had seen first at Nederlander, but something about that the theater lends itself to the experience. My personal feeling is to experience RENT best the first time you should see it in New York. Not knowing your travel options, this may be not be an option.
