I go through phases too…
I remember my early obsessions too…
Phantom: Spring 2005
Chicago: end of 2005
Rent: like a 2 week long period, now I don’t like it, lol.
(more recently…)
Legally Blonde: Nov. – Dec. 2007 (a result of the MTV broadcast)
Mary Poppins: Dec. 2007 - Jan. 2008
Wicked: Jan. 2008 – now (due to the current cast)

The good ones always stay an obsession with me. But like a good relationship the "passion" gives way to something more substantial and lasting.

My eternal obsession is with Disney's "On the Record" revue, and no one can mock me for it because I'll attack.

In high school it was Les Mis and Phantom.
From seminary on, it's Side Show...and Next to Normal. (And I suppose The Vertical Hour too.)

Wicked back in 2005 for a while..then faded..then came back last year and because very strong..
then phantom, rent, and spring awakening for about a week each..
then i saw jersey boys and was blown away, and was obsessed for a couple of weeks.
then young frankenstein..haha..for a couple of weeks,
(these obsessions were short but intense..hha)
and now Sweeney Todd[revival]. i am completely and for it. I am considering taking either Violin or Cello now because it just blew me away. I dont think I'll lose this obsession soon. [wicked is still going a little strong in my head]

The Phantom of the Opera: Ever since I was a litle kid to current day university student. It's the show that turned me on to musical theatre.
Company (2006 Broadway Revival): since a little over a year ago. When I found out that it was closing, I drove down from Toronto in one day to see it.
Cabaret (1998 Broadway Revival): This one has started in the last few months. I saw some clips on YT & got very interested. Shame I didn't get a chance to see this production before it closed.

I know many will scoff at my answer, but right now I'm obsessed with CURTAINS. I've seen it 10 times. It's such a feel good show - everytime I go, I sit with a big grin on my face for 2 1/2 hours.

Current obsession:
Tanz der Vampire and Dance of the Vampires
Past obsession:
Cats. I was nine or ten at the time (ah, youth). When the video was done playing, I would rewind it and watch from the beginning. Now I'll be lucky if I can get through it all.

Les Mis was sort of a life long obsession with me.. I still love it, it makes me nostalgic.
Some of my more embarassing phases include a "Sunset Boulevard" period when I was about 15 years old (I seriously loved the show so much that I look back with near shame) and an almost THREE YEAR BLOCK in middle school where I listened to nothing but my Secret Garden cast recording. Which was on tape. And I was REALLY good at fast forwarding to the right spots.
I pick up a lot of shows never to put them down though - I continue an attachment to Cabaret, Baker's Wife, Nine, Side Show, Ragtime, Urinetown, Next to Normal, Into the Woods, Parade, Company... and often I can never tell what will make me love a show. It either hits me or it doesn't.
And to whoever posted above about being obsessed with Curtains - me too, a bit. It just makes me grin.

Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

meredithchandler73, I know exactly how you feel! I couldn't stop listening to the cast recording for weeks after I saw the show for the first time. I need to get back and see it again before the closing.
My most recent obsession was Hairspray. Another feel-good show that never fails to lift my spirits. I always leave the theatre on a high.

Oh yea, I forgot Next to Normal.
After I see any show, I enter a little obsession with it - can't stop listening to the cast recording, etc., some obsessions last longer than others.

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
