I've always hoped that someone would be able to fix "Welcome to the Club". That show has something like 3 versions, all with different names. Unfortunately, the idea is somewhat dated, and the book is horrific. The score is one of Cy's best though.
And speaking of Cy Coleman, I can't believe there hasn't been an "On the Twentieth Century" revival.
Welcome to the Club intrigues me. Is there anywhere to hear any of the music? I've only heard At My Side and In The Name of Love from the Unsung Musicals CDs. Does anyone sing any material from it on a solo CD or anything like that?
For that post regarding the full "Cornet Man" from FUNNY GIRL.
The version on the Original Broadway Cast Recording is not the version performed on stage. I have a 'live' recording of Barbra in the show and she even performed her portion of the number completely different from how it was recorded. It was a long production number and her sections were dispersed throughout the number.
They re-arranged and re-orchestrated the song for the recording.
I know that's how the number was performed on stage in the original. I was wondering if the re-arranged and re-orchestrated 'Cornet Man' could find itself in a revival. I know Fanny is supposed "mess up" the number (like in the movie version) and then belt out the last part and be all amazing. But would there be a way to mess up the number and then perform the re-arranged 'Cornet Man'. Basically that's what happened in the movie. Fanny ruined the 'Roller Skate Rag' but made the number a comedy skit and then went on to WOW the audience with 'I'd Rather Be Blue'. I hope that's the kind of staging they would have in a revival of the show.
I know the Actor's Benefit Concert wasn't a full staging, but Idina sang the re-arranged 'Cornet Man'. For anyone who saw it, did Idina "ruin" and be silly with a number and then sing 'Cornet Man', or did she just sing the number straight?
Sounds silly I guess, but I love the song that much.
Grand Hotel The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas Seesaw Kiss of the Spider Woman Off-Broadway revival of Anyone Can Whistle A Little Night Music Mack & Mabel (though it isn't inexplicably, I still think ti deserves a Roundabout revival with two stars in the lead, i.e.Ms.Krakowski)
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Idina actually 'attempts' to sing it (horrible mess, poor girl). She sings the cast recording version -- not the version done on stage, so there's no production number interludes nor variations in the song.
I've said it more than once on this board, but I think the political climate right now screams out for a revival of "Li'l Abner." I'd also like to see revivals of "Applause," "Funny Girl," "Carnival," and "Dear World."
Buscee, I politely urge you to read this entire thread. Bailey revived DOLLY at the Minskoff in 75, Channing at the Lunt Fontanne in 78 and 95. I was there for all three productions. As I posted earlier in this thread.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
ScaryWarhol, you do know that there is going to be a concert version of ...SUPERMAN next month, don't you? I forget who is doing it, but it is a new company and I believe they are doing it at The Duplex here in NYC. They did a concert version of BRING BACK BIRDIE a few months ago that was fairly well recieved.

Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway in Hello Dolly was a part of the original run-not a revival.
If Tom DeLay is The Hammer, then I proclaim a new title for the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi: The Briber. Nancy Pelosi had to bribe her members with spinach to get their votes.
"I can't believe no one has mentioned the Pulitzer-winning FIORELLO!"
OMG! I completely forgot about Fiorello!! That needs a revival so bad. Maybe with Nathan Lane?
also...THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG!

I think also, that REEFER MADNESS should be given another chance. From what I understand, it opened only weeks after 9/11, which was not a good time for a show like that to open. I bet it would do great if given another chance. It's a fantastic show.

Julian2 -- several things need to be fixed on that ticket stub:
First, the price...$75?!! To see Christine in a production of DEAR WORLD?!! I would put that ticket at $525!!!
Second -- Orch Row A seat 10? Is that partial view? That seat is too far to the right. I would put it in the CENTER, like seat number 106 (dead center)
Third -- erase the words: GENERAL ADMISSION. General Admission means: first come; first serve...no seat assignment.
These would definitely add some juice to that ticket stub.
If the times were ever perfect for a musical revival, consider this storyline:
The US invades Switzerland over, of all things, cheese. The war is even "named", like a bridge or a hockey rink, by the industrial tycoon who's footing the bill for the war (oh, did I mention he owns a cheese processing plant?). His daughter is in love with one of the plant's managers, a war objector who goes anyway.
In Switzerland, the war is staged as an entertainment for visitors, so the two countries involved can make money off the admissions. In the end, it all ends happily, save for one American who, we discover, was lying to the people of both the US and Swtzerland for his own personal gain.

Someone said "Mame" a little earlier, but I remember that was already revived on Broadway with Lansbury herself and it flopped.

I agree with Dear World and with On a Clear Day You Can See Forever.
I would like to see Darling of the Day come back to Broadway. I saw a terrific production of it 2 years ago at the Light Opera Company in Illinois and it was fabulous!! I love the score.
