My picks would be:
FOLLIES
CITY OF ANGELS
STEEL PIER
What do you guys think?
Amour. The music is sort of nice to listen to but the show is just way too...FRENCH.
:0)
Almost anything Gilbert and Sullivan
Almost anything Frank Wildhorn
The Boy From Oz
1776
Miss Saigon
Titanic

Miss Saigon, without a doubt.
The Goodbye Girl
BKLYN
Aida (you can skip the terrible numbers)
The Secret Garden.
(Although I thought 'City of Angels' was much better in person than on CD.)
Anything Goes
great music, lousy book.
People probably won't agree with me, but Hairspray. I loove the music, didn't love the show like lots of others.
STEEL PIER and THE LIFE were dreadful onstage, but not so bad to listen to.
Having only heard MACK AND MABEL was not good onstage, I have to say I am a fan of the score. Another in that category would be THE RINK.
I Love City of Angels! It is great on stage and on CD.
Id say Miss Saigon (I love this show but I like listening to it than wathcing it (I have it on tape)

I was quite disapointed when I finally saw Les Miz, after listening to the CRS A LOT in the year or so proir. Maybe it was just the very lackluster cast (other than Randal Keith and the Thenardiers), but I believe that it's a little disaponting (as currently) on stage. On CD, however, it's arguably one of the best musicals ever written.

Pippin. I love the score but the show IMO never lived up to its potential.
The grand prize winner in this category is the OBC of Merrily We Roll Along.
All Shook Up
Bounce
Brooklyn
wickedrentq, I agree with you on Hairspray
Baby
Once On This Island
Carousel
Man of La Mancha
All scores that I really love, but can hardly sit through most of them on stage.

Brooklyn: The Musical and Aida. They've both been said, so I'm really just agreeing.
Elyse. No day but today.
Wicked
But maybe it's because I figured Elphaba would actually fly, not just get strapped into a harness. The way I imagined the show was on a much grander scale then it actually is.

I really have to disagree with The Boy From Oz. I can see the appeal of not having to listen to the book, but that show was all about the live experience for me.
Anyway, for me, sadly, Pacific Overtures is on that list.
Don't laugh at me! The Taboo score was pretty good, but it tanked.
I agree about Hairpsray. I thought that the melodies themselves were great. But the book and the entire production just didn't do it for me.
