Am I correct that the ONLY show up tonight is Cinderella?
If so, isn't that really strange? Does anyone remember a night on which only one show performed?
And why would they do that? If they really wanted to do eight shows this week, why not an extra matinee today or tomorrow, given the show's target audience.
In any event, no matter how you cut it, this is always a very bad week on Broadway.
Last year on 4th of July? (I don't really remember, though.)
Seriously, though, this is an outside holiday....they've learned from past years. Most shows have rescheduled an 8th show during the week -- they usually do.
Shows don't sell on July 4, hence why most of them changed their schedules this week. And by looking at ticketmaster, there's plenty of seats available for tonight's performance of Cinderella.

ACL2006, that's my point. Isn't it strange that Cinderella, among all the other other shows, is the only one that decided to perform tonight? I would have thought they'd have done better scheduling an extra matinee. Maybe they thought they'd do well with no competition, but as you point out, that does not appear to have been the case.
My question really adresses WHY we think they made their decision.
Likely, they thought being the only one with a show they would sell out. (Which does have 'some' logic in it - but obviously, it didn't work.)

Yes, Cinderella is the only show tonight. Vanya and Sonya... has a matinee.
Last year I remember seeing The Best Man at an evening performance. I can't recall if any other shows were playing.
It looks like TKTS has the VANYA matinee and CINDERELLA tonight, as well as MURDER BALLAD, STOMP and A PICTURE OF AUTUMN tonight also.
They're also apparently selling some matinees for tomorrow today (very gracious of them!): ANNIE, JERSEY BOYS and SPIDER-MAN on Broadway, POTTED POTTER off.
Maybe CINDERELLA will get a boost from tourists at TKTS unaware that most shows aren't playing tonight?
Great point, jnb9872. The last minute sales might be brisk. It will be interesting to see.
Didn't War Horse have a show last year too? I can't remember if it was a matinee or evening performance, but I do remember seeing the performance on TDF.
I wonder since July 4 was a Wednesday, if there were more matinees due to high expectation.
