If you go to Vegas right now you can catch a clown in The Producers.
"MARY POPPINS has a gay clown doll"
I haven't noticed it/he was homosexual !
However, as far as I remember, it is a jack-in-the-box !
He may have been Jack
But I doubt he was ever in a box.

a real clown in a clownsuit clown
Why is that making me giggle so?
That cracked me up too.
It's like you found a clownsuit at like a garage sale or something and you are gonna do a Musical around it?

"any show with Pantalone from the Commedia delle Arte"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the fool of Commedia delle Arte called Truffaldino. The only work of Commedia I'm very well familiarized with is The Servant of Two Masters by Goldoni where Pantalone was an old father figure, so it may be different in other works of the genre. If anyone knows the answer, I'm curious to hear it.

There's a show in which Roger Bart played a Harlequin, and he's definitely in a Jester/Clown suit. I forget what it's called though.
