I saw Phantom when I was a kid, and LOVED it. I saw it again several times.
When I finally saw it as an adult...I realized how much I hated it. It is now my second most hated musical, right after Cats.
I also loved Wicked the first time I saw it, but subsequently got a little blah over it.

Posted: 2/1/06 at 1:29amI was obsessed with everything Wicked until I saw the show. I still like the show, but I recognize it for the (greatly) flawed show it is.

Posted: 2/1/06 at 1:29amSpelling Bee. Four times, two of them Adult Performances, and that's enough for me.

Wicked.
The score is great but the book needs to be reworked.
Brigadoon.
Such great music. Such a lousy book.
Once Upon a Matress.
The novelty wore off so fast.
Little Women...loved the soundtrack and then went and saw it...
I sat how long to hear one good song? "Astonishing".

Fossemoves made a mistake in listening to the MOVIE SOUNDTRACK not realizing that the music in the Broadway show was totally different. He should have listened to the ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING and then he would have heard the songs featureds in the stage musical!
:)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Sorry to say, but Cats and Phantom.
And Fosse76, I'd be tired of ANYTHING I saw four times!

Perhaps, but it's not as if I saw them all in a row. They've been spread out by months. I've seen Avenue Q four times as well, and that's starting to lose it's luster. And the time in bewteen viewings of that show is much greater than of Spelling Bee.

Wicked. Predominantly because wherever I go all I hear is off-key renditions of Defying Gravity.
And also Phantom. I still have to love it becasue it's the first show I ever saw on stage when I was young and innocent. But as I'm old and embittered I can now see the banality of ALW's work. Shame...

Posted: 2/1/06 at 11:07amI think there are some shows that just rely on the shock factor and after a while it just loses the novelty. For me, The Producers.

Posted: 2/1/06 at 3:08pmI totally agree with timote316: I loved the cast recording of Wicked, but when I actually saw the show I was slightly disappointed. I saw it again 6 months later (giving it another chance)... and was even more disappointed. I've given up on it now.

Posted: 2/1/06 at 3:17pmI was obsessed with Annie in my early teens. I wouldn't call my attitude towards it now hate, but it certainly doesn't get much play anymore.

Posted: 2/1/06 at 9:56pmMamma Mia. The first time I saw it I was not really expecting anything, and I loved it. Then I started listening to the sound track all the time. What a fun show! About a year and a half later, I saw it again and I really hated it. I couldn't understand why I liked it the first time. It may have just been that the cast was much worse, but I don't have any desire to see it again, or hear the album anymore.
