I can usually find something to enjoy in almost all shows, but there is only one I out and out hated...
THE LION KING - I am not overly fond of the Disney/Broadway experience, but I can at least find some merit in Aida and Beauty and the Beast. I found THE LION KING excruciating, even more so for the inexplicable accolades and Tony wins. Elton John should be permanently banned from contributing even one more musical note to Broadway...EVER. I am still in awe that anyone thought the restrictive animal costumes were stunning rather than resembling moth-eaten cast-offs from the Thanksgiving Parade. It also did not help that the children at the performance were bored stiff and started acting up, crawling all over the floor and having to be entertained by their respective parents. It took me a long time to attend another kid-friendly show, and when I did (it was quite fun) I realized it was only TLK that did not hold their interest.
Honorable runners-up under the glad I saw them once, but it was enough category:
AIDA
DREAMGIRLS (A tour attended with a friend who loves the show and insists we had the worst Effie that ever trod the boards)
CATS (Act 2 seemed better than Act I, but I was lost by then)
WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND
THE KING AND I (The show seemed a bit lifeless)
FOLLIES
SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE
FOSSE
DRACULA-THE MUSICAL
ASSASSINS
SWEENEY TODD (John Doyle version only - all others I loved)
TABOO (Great cast and very flashy, but remind me again why anything or anyone in it was pertinent to a US resident?)
BELLS ARE RINGING (a musical that REALLY shows its age)
A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM
CHESS (Love the score, but the show itself leaves me cold)

Posted: 6/23/06 at 3:32pmI've never flat out HATED a show, but the only show that had be begging to leave was Ezra's Treason at the Perry Street Theatre. It COULD have been good, but there was nothing engaging about the way it was written and it dragged on SO much longer than it ever had to.

Ring of Fire - Belonged in a theme park
In My Life - need I even say why?
Lestat - bad music, bad acting, bad story, bad book,
The Lion King - boring
Tarzan - music was ok, story was cliched and boring, sets uninspired
Beauty and the Beast - boring, and I think the costumes were stupid
Aida - I hated the music...and that swimming pool scene was just so unecessary
Jesus Christ Superstar
42nd Street
Dracula

Oklahoma, hands down.
I've seen it three times, each time thinking "well, maybe it'll be better" ...but it never is.

City of Angels- school production, made me want to shoot myself.
Over.
And Over.
And run my head through a knife. Violently.
My friend made me stay through intermission.
Oh, and we're wasting pixel trees with our !!!!!'s.

Oh, yes FrontrowCentre,
Barry Mannilow's Copacabana
There is no reason why, even a musical called "Barry Mannilow's Copacabana" should be as bad as "Barry Mannilow's Copacabana"...
