Shows you would love to see a certain director take on

Are there are any shows that you wish a certain director would take one? Mine are...

Jesus Christ Superstar directed by Ivo Van Hove

Ragtime by Bartlett Sher

I want to see a Steppenwolf-style GYPSY with Laurie Metcalf or someone of that ilk. Totally downplaying the musical/comedy side and making it more about the melancholy & desperation of the times - the comedy truly coming out of that organically. Still funny, but not played so broadly over-the-top with a Rose who's just there to belt & chew the scenery. What's Amy Morton up to?

This is basically what the 2008 revival was.

I'm kind of shocked that Ivo Van Hove hasn't done a revival of Sweeney Todd. If any musical is right for him to do, it's this one. I'd love to see Olivia Colman and Michael C Hall play the two leads.

The 2008 Gypsy was still way too over the top and broad. I'm talking about something truly played intimately before ALL else. I think the key is really not having a Rose belting her face off to perfection (as gratifying as that can be) or one that is full-on "bull in a china shop" from the overture to the final bow (again, that can be thrilling) - at least hint at a few insecurities and desperation and let us see that she's covering up some of that emotion (even Mendes' didn't get there). Maybe what I really want is a dialogue-based version of that tale and the version we have now just won't ever be that. Although I love some of those character songs... Maybe a Rob Marshall hatchet job with Barbra and Gaga? (JUST KIDDING!)

Anyway, YAAASSS to Olivia Colman & Michael C. Hall in a disturbing, stylized Sweeney by Van Hove!!! Wouldn't that be truly something spectacular? And that piece does lend itself well to new interpretations! Not that it matters that much, but I wonder how Colman's voice is and if she could at least pull off a good character voice. Has she sung in anything?

I would love to see Michael Arden take on Children of Eden. Like with Once On This Island, take the framework and beautiful score and reinvent it it in a way that elevates the material and makes it resonate with a current audience.
