So I recently got engaged at Disneyland this past Wednesday night and I am thrilled!! But Disneyland was my boyfriend's back up plan. His original idea was to come to an audition I was at or a rehearsal for one of my plays or something and sing "Shiksa Goddess" from "The Last Five Years". It would have meant alot to me because my boyfriend isn't exactly what you'd call a musical theater enthusiast. But the fact he learned the song with a voice teacher and was trying to get someone to play the piano for him meant that he really wanted to make it special. Of course it was special regardless. But I thought of the idea that he could sing to me at the reception and I would sing to him. The question is, what would I sing? I don't want anything cliche like "Someone Like You" from Jekyll and Hyde or anything. Any good ideas? Thanks for your input!
Are you sure he even WANTS to sing in front of everyone? If performing isn't his thing, I might think not. To do it for you, from his heart is one thing. To perform in front of everyone at a wedding is a bit different.
THAT being said, I think this kind of thing is incredibly personal -- YOU need to find the song that has the right words. We don't know you, your fiance or what makes your relationship work. A song from you that would be perfect, might not be something traditional about love or marriage.
Congrats.

...if you have second thoughts beforehand!)
Only joking,
All the best!
How about...One! From A Chorus Line?

What about "My White Knight" from The Music Man?
If you want to have a showtune be part of your ceremony, though, there's a gorgeous string quartet version of "One Hand, One Heart" that I saw on youtube a few months ago.
Not a show tune, but the song Two Words was written for Lea Solanga's wedding. See the video. Seems like a perfect fit.

"Almost Like Being in Love" was the showtune I wanted played as my new hubby and I walked into the wedding reception. But the rock-heavy band we had back in '76 had never heard of it. (At least they played the "Star Trek" theme as the Viennese table was wheeled out.)
ALBIL is still my all-time favorite love song.
You're welcome. :)

My friend and her husband had their first dance to "I've Never Been In Love Before" from GUYS & DOLLS. It's a duet, so you could sing it to each other.
Best wishes!
My Cup Runneth Over from I Do! I Do!
For slow dance Happy/Sad from Addams Family.
cracks me up:
Ilona (Barbara Baxley) to Amalia (Barbara Cook): Supposing he's a knucklecracker, Amalia!
breaks my heart:
C.C. (Obba Babatunde) to Effie (Jennifer Holliday): Effie, I've got a song I want you to sing!
These are not the most striking bars of the scores of She Loves Me or Dreamgirls, but they are gotcha moments.
OH, NO! MAJOR FAUX PAS! DANGER, DANGER WILL ROBINSON!
Above post was meant for small moments to cherish from original cast recordings thread; and certainly not for songs to sing at one's own - or anybody else's for that matter - wedding.
He could still sing Shiksa Goddess at the party... You'd have to have a responsive number. Although, you'd have to gauge whether it would be appropriate for those in attendance....
Instead of My White Knight, I would choose "Till There Was You" from The Music Man. This is a personal favorite. We had our wedding band and singer play/sing this - and in retrospect, maybe it should have been first dance as married couple.
"Something Wonderful" from The King and I.
You could probably change "Now I Have Everything" from Fidder into a duet - alternate verses.
For a fun number - "Just in Time" from Bells are Ringing

Congratulations on your engagement Lite! I was MOH for a friends wedding and she is also a huge theater person. She and her husband wanted to sing to each other and decided to do so just in front of close friends and family at their rehearsal dinner. They sang "You are my home" from The Scarlet Pimpernel, and it was lovely.

"'Til There Was You" is perfect for a wedding solo.
For duets, I love "The Next Ten Minutes."

These are all great ideas!!! Thanks everyone!!
I love the song "Believe" from "The Scarlet Pimpernel". (Don't know if it was in the second version, but it's a gorgeous song.)
