Granted I havent SEEN the show. but the music is quite forgettable. especially compared to the other nominated shows.

I have to disagree with Shrek's score being forgettable. I've been listening to it lately and there are some great songs. "When Worlds Fail," "Who I'd Be," and "I'd Build a Wall" are stand-outs to me. I really think D'arcy James deserves the Best Actor award. He is giving a great, emotional performance, which is surprising. But the Billy Boys are impressive, but and I was emotionally invested in the show, but James' performance just shows what a seasoned performer can do. He is bawdy and heartwarming all in the same show.
I'm most curious to see who wins Best Score. "Next to Normal" has some good songs, but I didn't leave remembering any of the songs. They sort of all melted together for me. And after a while it just got to be like "Oh, jeez, ANOTHER song?" And "Billy Elliot" has some good songs, but none them are total stands out, I think. They work in the context of the show, but none that I really need a second listen.
And "9 to 5," well, you know how I feel about that score. With the exception of "Backwoods Barbie," it's utterly forgettable.

Shrek has a solid shot at a design award or two and I think Sieber will win. But the big prize has Billy Elliott's name on it.
I do think Shrek has the most to gain from tv exposure, though, and a well-crafted, wisely chosen number on the Tonys should sell them enough tickets to run quite a while.
