It was exciting, perfect, thrilling, brilliant and everything that anyone could ever want at a concert. And you will see all of that when itcomes out next year. This needed to be filmed and it almost makes up for the complete disrespect they showed for the 2016 production. Almost."
Which midtown hotel was Audra staying in THIS time?
WOW! Seeing this again in concert form was an absolute thrill! The iconic choreography of 'The Pennsylvania Graveyard Shuffle' was utterly breathtaking, and the energy from the cast was electric. It was truly the standout experience of the year.
This concert made me realize how much NYC theatre needs Savion Glover back - his choreography just makes you sit up straighter and marvel "who DID that?!", but there's only one name that fits the bill. His is such a singular talent, both dancing and choreographing, and our stage is the poorer for not having him there more often. (Of course, this makes me worry for the lack of development of singular talents that don't fit neatly into any specific type, but I can only stand on one soapbox at a time)
All this to say: how fortunate we are for Noise/Funk and Shuffle Along, and I desperately hope we get more to come!
Was lucky enough to attend last night and loved the material just as much as I did 10 years ago, perhaps even more.
From the very start you could feel the joy radiating off the stage and the love these performers have for this show and just how much they wanted to showcase it as best as they possibly could. And every single one of them delivered.
I think perhaps it is a blessing in disguise that the show was not preserved until now as everyone up there performed perhaps better than they did 10 years ago. Audra is a much more confident and capable belter, Billy Porter felt much more reigned in (and delivered the best performance I personally have ever seen from him), Stokes was on fire, it's the best I've heard Norm sing in about 12 years, and Adrienne Warren seems to have finally fully shaken the last of Tina Turner out of her. A group of actors we are truly so lucky to get to see perform.
Seeing Savion Glover as the clarinet tapper was thrilling and a highlight of the whole evening.
I am envious reading everyone’s raves from across the country but am thrilled to see the performance was recorded. ‘Pennsylvania Graveyard Shuffle’ is one of my favorite Broadway memories and I was always frustrated it never turned up anywhere. It sounds like a wonderful time was had by all.
The concert was breathtaking! I’m so happy that I was able to go. I previously watched a recording of it at the NYPL TOFT archive, and I was blown away then, and seeing it in person was incredible.
Also heard news that in addition to the PBS taping, we’re getting a Cast Recording, which I can’t wait for! It deserved one 10 years ago, so I’m over the moon that it’s finally happening.

No WAY! Has this been officially announced anywhere?
