Cole Porter- Kiss Me Kate (Act 1 Finale)
Alan Menken- Reflections (Mulan, not Broadway...yet)
Stiles & Drewe- Little One Come Hither (Just So)
R& H- "If I Loved You" (Carousel)

err what about Boubil and Schonberg?! - tie between "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" and "Live With Somebody you Love" (Martin Guerre).....oh hell, and "One Day More"

Cole Porter: "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" (Anything Goes)
Menken: "Somewhere That's Green" (Little Shop)
Ahrens: "The Burden of Life", "Princess", and "Tell Me Why" (all from Man of No Importance)
Kander and Ebb: "Perfectly Marvelous" (Cabaret) and "She's a Woman" (Kiss of the Spider Woman)

it's funny how some people list the composer only for some songs and for others they list both composer and lyricist.

who wrote the lyrics to "Surrender" from "Sunset Boulevard"? The poor guy gets no respect.

and no props to Howard Ashman for coming up with part of "Somewhere That's Green"? Not Cool.

) in the world, but he should get some credit.

But Ashman, I will always beleive, was the driving force for all of the great songs (and there are many) in the Menken/Ashman catalogue. That man's knowledge and passion were beyond extraordinary.

Stephen Sondheim - Any Moment/Moments in the Woods
Cole Porter - Always True to You, In My Fashion
Alan Menken - ooh god, I love all of Little Shop. Skid Row, I guess, if I must choose.
Ahrens & Flaherty - Wheels of a Dream

Hammerstein didn't compose "South Pacific" or "It Might As Well Be Spring" or "Mister Snow". Richard Rodgers was the composer.

Fred Ebb did not compose "Mein Herr", "Cabaret", "Perectly Marvelous", etc. John Kander composed those.

Maybe the title of this thread should be changed to "Single Favorite Songs from Songwriters" (no offense to Capn Hook, who started this thread).

It's interesting reading all of your lists though.

I see that there has been some confusion. especially with Sondheim "composing" Rose's Turn. woof. anyway, if we are simply listing compositions, then there is no need to include the lyricist's name, but since the title is favorite song then I'm guessing then that this includes the lyrics too. so for some of these posts, yes, Andrew Lloyd Webber does not write lyrics so to say that your favorite Andrew Lloyd Webber song is .... whatever it is... then the lyricist should also be listed. only in the case of Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter, just from the ones that Capn originally posted, is there the possibility of one being both composer and lyricist.

Ok. . . I'm going to stretch the composer/lyricist argument and say that "One Hand one Heart" is my fav Sondheim song, because he collaborated on West Side Story. (sorry, I'm not too familliar w/ his other works, plus no one mentioned Bernstien so I had to)

ALW = The Perfect Year
Menken = If I Can't Love Her
A&F = New Music
K&E = Mr. Celophane
R&H = Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?

And. . . Menken and Ashman ARE and forever will be the greatest creative team to have written a musical. Ok, so Tim Rice wrote the lyrics for "If I Can't Love Her" but that doesn't change my opinion! And "Part of Your World" is just the best song ever! I didn't include it, because its not from a broadwy show. . . YET!

Correction... Menken did not compose Reflection. The songs in Mulan were written by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel.
