I'm just excited about a new Menken score, which would be enough for me to want to check it out. I've seen good shows with cheap marquees before, so that's nothing new. And this one is far from the worst I've seen. I'd change the font, for one thing. And a simpler graphic design would have been more clever. The graphics are cute, but it's too busy. Using the same artist, I would have simply had a row of nuns across the page, holding rosaries, but the one obvious leading character holding a microphone instead. Neat, simple, clever and eye-catching.
I am curious as to how strong the adaptation will be. There are a few musicals that I felt were improvements on the film versions. Thoroughly Modern Millie and Legally Blonde spring to mind. It's not that I didn't like the films (Millie featured a stellar cast with a rather tepid screenplay), but that I found their stage counterparts to be more entertaining.
