re: Sister act marquee

I'm optimistic as well. I enjoy Alan Mencken scores and I enjoy Shiela Hancock performances.

re: Sister act marquee

The Marquee does look a bit uninspirational. But what's the saying about not judging a book by its cover? I'm still really excited about seeing this show. Just love Menken's music.

re: Sister act marquee

Excuse my ignorance, but not being a British native I've never heard of Sheila Hancock? I assume she's a big name, but what for?

Not looking for an argument here but...

"But what's the saying about not judging a book by its cover?"
Prescisly, but in the priscilla thread you said...

"But I can't understand why so many people seem excited about this show. To me it's just another musical without an original score, which is precisely what musical theatre does not need"

Contradictory none the less.. but anyway

Boyfromoz, Sheila Hancock is a very famous westend actress and TV personality... Been Miss Hannigan in Annie (can be heard on the original Cast album), Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd, Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret. Notable Films shes done "Carry On Cleo" "Buster" and shes in the new Film "The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas"

re: Sister act marquee

Clark, there is nothing in any way contradictory in what I said. Re. Sister Act I meant you can't judge what a show will beb like just by looking at a marquee. My reservations about Priscilla are about the actual show, not the marquee. I simply do not like jukebox musicals and I saw the Priscilla movie and hated it. So I've seen inside the cover of that one.

re: Sister act marquee

There's been a lot of 'blah' feeling expressed about this show on this board so far - I hope the material can make people change their minds!
For those who aren't that excited, have you seen the videos on the website? I'd be interested to hear what you think about the tasters so far. It would be nice to express opinion on something, rather than the theory or idea of something!

re: Sister act marquee

I think the eyes still have it for Priscilla.

Sister act, can give me my best theatre experience, as my opinion on it is very low, when it proves me wrong, no better feeling walking out of a theatre.

I've watched the video on the Priscilla website and it confirms my worst fears LOL. I think it looks and sounds horrific - everything I hate about the jukebox musical. I know lots of people will love it - but I just can't stomach that kind of music. I've not heard anything from the Sister Act score but I've never heard an Alan menken song I have not liked, so I'm still looking forward to SA rather than PQOTD.

re: Sister act marquee

Im with Bob8rich on this. I have my reservations on Sister Act, but still much more excited about it than PQOTD. I got my tickets on the Hairspray deal back in January so got best seats for £45. I do think this shows mistake may have been its choice of theatre, but time will tell on that!

re: Sister act marquee

Sister act has some £17.50 seats in the 2nd row of the upper circle that are aparently really good! Think i'll get them when i eventually go.

re: Sister act marquee

£95 premium seats row G stalls!
Any better for you?
#43

re: Sister act marquee

I definitely won't be paying £95, recession dear boy!
#44

re: Sister act marquee

They're not introducing that Premium Seat concept of pricing here are they?

That immediately make me angry.

Looking at the website I get the impression this show is aimed at American tourists rather than UK audiences.

Optimism ebbing away...........

re: Sister act marquee

i have only just seen the marquee for sister act and i must agree that is cheap and tastless really ! it is not as good as the chitty marquee and i think it looks tacky as has been said before from some comments i read at the beggining of the thread !

re: Sister act marquee

She is a pretty big name in UK. As for musicals, she played Mrs Lovett and Miss Hannigan in the UK premieres of Sweeney and Annie. She was recently in Cabaret.
She was married to actor John Thaw (Morse) and when he died write a number one bestselling book.

re: Sister act marquee

I wasn't that big of a fan of the movie, but as far as I'm concerned, the movie carnation is the best Sister Act is ever going to be, hence why I think the musical will be dire!

I have a strange vision of an all singing all dancing flower now (movie carnation, tee hee)

I just don't see how you can judge a show so harshly when there's no evidence either way yet!

Easy - I just had to look at the poster for Imagine This to know it was going to flop. I may have wished it had had a better fate when I later heard the score but my initial instinct was right.
