Hey all...
So I'm going to be directing a musical this summer at a local community theatre with high school/college age kids. Last year we did the revival version of "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" and it was a huge sucsess. Anyone have any suggestions to top that? It's a small space... about 110 seats. I'm really looking for a show about the size of "YAGMCB" as we don't have THAT many kids. A ten person max probably. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

The recent Broadway musical version of Little Women had a small cast.
Ehhhh I do love Little Women, but none of our girls have the voice. And the theatre did Pippin a few years back....
Keep 'em comin though!!

Summer of '42 by Kirshenbaum and Foster. Rights from Dramtists Play service.
Cast is Hermie, Dorothy, Oscy, benjie, Aggie, Miriam, Gloria, sanders/Winchell, and Pete. Band is six pieces. cam be done, as it was off-Broadway on a small stage with a basic beach set and small units brought in for the other locations (interior of a house, inside/outisde of a movie house that needs only 4 seats, a teen boy's bedroom, and a drugstore)
Great, small musical with lots of heart, based on a classic film. A double CD was recently released by Jay Records. It is a GREAT record that includes all music and dialogue.. even exit music. It gives you a wonderful feel for the piece.
Song & Dance???
I probably should have mentioned that this is a theatre in the middle of no where in the boondocks of Connecticut... so our audiences are weird. They'll need a semi-recognizable title.

From this list I'd say Godspell or Little Shop would sell the most tickets. If I had a theatre to fill this summer I'd do Pippin or Godspell with a huge "By the composer of WICKED" Banner on the poster.

Tick, Tick... Boom! You could actually cast some of the smaller roles instead of having Michael and Susan playing all those other characters...
A New Brain
i somehow think kids singing "A New Brain" would come across as super tacky. ditto with "Tick...Tick...Boom!". but maybe i'm just not "with it" or something. i love the shows but i have a hard time picturing high school students singing these songs.
i'm with Michael Bennett on "Honk!" another fun show would be "Crazy For You" though that does require a large ensemble so i'd count it out.
Once on this Island. Perfect 10 person show. The oringial had 11, but lil timoune and little girl can be combined into one part.
