ahh Jay that stinks. I can't catch it either because of rehearsals and my Boston Conservatory audition this weekend re: Snow Day Today! Which last minute matinee?

Anyways I think you should see Is He Dead because I want to see it and heard nothing but good things about it.

I saw AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY from the rear mezz and thought the view was just great. I love IS HE DEAD?, too, but AUGUST is the best thing out there right now.

I was sitting in the very last row of the theater for August and I still enjoyed it immensely. I would say go for a play. If you want total fun and laughs and something really light... I would say Is He Dead? Otherwise go for August, it's amazing!

August is fine from the mezz. I sent my boss and his wife to see it and they were in the mezz and loved it.

Or, go to Xanadu!!! It's really fun. I absolutely have become hooked on it.

Save Xanadu for later. If you've never seen a play on Broadway, why not today? I have yet to see Is He Dead?, but I will really soon.. and I can't talk up August: Osage County anymore because even I can't take it anymore..but GO SEE IT.

Not only is IS HE DEAD? hilarious, but its rush isn't that popular. The $26.50 rush seats are SUPPOSED to put you in th rear-mezz but most of the box office workers are awesome and know it'll be a semi-empty house, and may offer you center-mezz and sometimes even orchestra! No lie. Just go have fun.

Xanadu!

If you want to see a play - try for Seafarer

For an intellectual play, I recommend "The Farnsworth Invention". Jimmi Simpson's performance is not to be missed.

Oh man I am about to head to Times Sq and I am still torn between August and Is He Dead. I'm going by myself so I should see something that would be hard to convinced non-theater-pyscho friends to see. I'm thinking that's August. And like another poster said, I will be really disappointed if I dont see it.

August is what I've been dying to see and this is probably my only chance to see it so I'm gonna do it. And thte printer gods have smiled on me because my discount code actually printed out.

I just realized it will be hard for me as a Les Mis fanatic to walk into the Imperial and see the turntable gone---but life goes on! :)

And FYI, I dont know anything about this show other than its got a dysfunctional family, there's a lot of swear words, its 3 hours long, and everybody loves it.

So look for my review tonight----I'll let you all know whats up. I'm off to the subway!

Jay - Sunday Matinee's have Dana DeLisa as Eliza, not Lisa O'Hare, but I'm sure you'll still love it if you're able to go. The production was amazing, minus the talk-singing of Christopher Cazenove as Professor Higgins.

Ok so I'm back from my Snow Day matinee of August:Osage County.

It's hard to say anything about this show right now. All I want to do is talk about what happened in this show, because you just wouldn't believe it. But, of course I'm not gonna publish any spoilers.

Let's just say this show is entertaining, shocking, funny, sad, tightly-acted, unpredictable, fast-paced......wow I dont know what else.

I bought my ticket at about 1:15 for the 2pm show, and I got 5th row of the center front mezz. I could see everything, including facial expressions.

The usher in the mezz of the Imperial was a real piece of work. As she seated people, she reminded them to vote for Barack Obama. She seated soooooooo many people in the wrong seats. First she said that she was a Black History Month lecturer, and she wasn't really supposed to there today. Then she said that she's normally in the orchestra. Then she said she was filling in for someone else. Whatever the case was, she didnt know where the seats were, and when she looked at people's tickets, she would say things like "ok sweetheart, see that lady over there? go sit right by her" And when you looked where she was pointing, there would be 3 or 4 ladies standing, and you didn't know what she meant by sitting "by" the lady. Vey weird.

There was a 200 year old lady in front of me who started to mooooooooooooan and grooooooooan in the first act. The people around here at first kinda jumped up, then got an usher, the usher tried to get the lady out, but they insisted that she could stay. The lady was right in front of me. Every 20 minutes or so, she would start moaning again, and the guy next to her would sort of pat her head. I felt really bad for her. It seemed like her family wanted to see the show so bad that they weren't about to miss it just because their elderly relative might be dying or something.

The set was great. So many different spaces--so realistic--so functional--so beautiful--so detailed.

The two intermissions were a great idea. However, the 3 hour 20 minute running time flew by. I was totally engrossed with the story. I came in there thinking "this can't possibly be as good as everyone says" And yeah, the first few jokes, when the whole audience roared with laughter, there I was rolling my eyes thinking "u gotta do better than that" And boy did they ever. The more the show went on, the more my jaw dropped, the more I gasped, the more I put my hand up to my mouth (only done that with horror movies in the past)

Oh yeah, the Violet Weston (the mom--the lady pointing in all the adverts) had an understudy today. But if I hadn't noticed that, I would have never in a million years guessed she was an understudy. The three daughters were all better than the next.

I hope to see the show again before it closes. I think it could worked open-ended if they could just find more good actors to dive into that incredible script.

I am surprised at how many negative reader reviews there are of August: Osage County in the Times:

Deana Dunagan seems to miss a lot of Wednesday matinees. I wonder if she is not contracted to perform them.

Glad you enjoyed the show. I absolutely loved it, and recommend it to everyone. It's a stunning piece, and I don't think I ever sat on the edge of my seat like I did during this show, especially the second act. The last ten minutes of act 2 are worth the price of admission alone!

yes I admit I almost broke down and went to see Phantom for the 80billionth time (what can I say except Hi my name's George and I'm a phantom-a-holic) but, the references to the 1925 Phantom movie in August made me smile. : )

I put my hand over my mouth a couple of times watching August. It's great that you enjoyed it..I keep telling people how incredible it is. It's such a shame that Deanna Dunagan was out though. I'm sure the understudy was competent, but Deanna Dunagan's performance had me screaming and drove me to tears. Chills, everywhere. I've already seen it twice from rear mezz student rush tickets (which were not bad, they were front or second row rear mezz), but the next time I see it, I'm willing to spend the big bucks for orchestra or front mezz.

The thing about the 200 year old woman was painful to read. Why would her family do that to her?

and oh, vote for Barack Obama

Yeah I definitely have to go back to check out Deanna Dunagan. Her understudy was incredible though. It'll be great to see how much better Deanna does it.

Not only was that 200year old woman moaning and groaning, she was also falling forward---the guy next to her (her son maybe?) had to hold her head up every so often. I missed a lot of Violet Weston's first lines because her family just sat there and watched her moan instead of getting her some help.

And hey its not big bucks for the front mezz/orchestra. I paid 66 bucks for my $111.50 seat. And that was 45 minutes before showtime. broadwaybox.com

Why do you keep referring to another person as a 200 year old woman?
