So, I saw Rock of Ages...

I can seperate my opinion and be objective. I'm not a huge fan of Follies, but I know its good. It doesn't really work for me, but i recognize the skill in the writing.
Rock of Ages on the other hand is just bad. I can see why people enjoy it, but it is not good."
I'm sorry but that argument is stupid. That makes no sense. If you don't like it, then obviously you don't think the writing is skilled. Right? I mean, do you think writing a catchy 80s hair band song is easy? Have you done it? Do you think writing good comedy is easy? It's not. And it's even harder to perform comedy. You can get away with drama because there's no immediate feedback, but with comedy, if you tell a joke and it doesn't work, you know right then and there because no one is laughing. I think people just get sort of bogged down on the fact that it's an 80s hair band jukebox. It's tough writing comedy. That said, I know you people seem to get naked over "Next to Normal," but it's really not that great. Every song ends the same, and it's SO annoying. Songs like "The Break" are great, but then they got bogged down when they end the song by slowing it down and repeating the lyric in this heartfelt manner that's just like "c'mon, we get the point, move on!"

How can you tell when there are a ton of comps, by the way?
When i went to pick up my ticket (a comp) they just handed it to be from a LARGE pile of tickets.

Ugg, another weak argument about ROA. Pretty obvious that zone went in to the show with a stick firmly planted up his rear, and his nose in the air.
Like I said, the obsessive fans won't let anyone not like it. If they don't like it, there is something wrong with them.
That REALLY makes me want to like the show, oh yeah.

of course there were a ton of comps. They never do Wed shows. So this was an anomaly and therefore people didn't know too far in advance that the show would be selling. ROA is usually dark on wed. Its like if Mamma mia added a monday show 3 weeks in advance. Would not be sold out.
And if you think ROA is doing poorly, just keep reading the grosses each week. Oh and the Amazing plug Hoda Kotb gave it on the today show. Oh and Constantine singing on the today show tomorrow, oh and Posion singing with the cast on the Tony's. You know the one where they were nominated for best musical by 28 nominators of the theater community over 9-5. that one.
keep on hating while we don't stop believing.

#33re: So, I saw Rock of Ages...
Posted: 6/3/09 at 11:52pmI'm not obsessed in any way. I've seen it once, and I have no desire to go back. It was a fun show, that's about it.

Wouldn't that comment be more apt in a N2N thread?

I'm used to immature fighting on these boards, but ZONEACE, that last comment went way too far. That kind of comment is never okay. You should be ashamed of yourself. That was highly offensive.
