Something that annoys me about the Tony speech uploads on YouTube

This is the first year that the Tony Awards' YouTube channel have uploaded the speeches of the Tony winners without putting in the 'pre-announcement' section where they read the nominees/show nominees' faces, because I love seeing their reactions. Love that silent half a second just before they read the winner's name. It's so tense. I think Laura Benanti's reaction to Nikki M. James' win in 2011 was priceless. And I'd love to see the other category reactions for this year... Something that annoys me about the Tony speech uploads on YouTube

(Getting ready for the hate replies, waste of a thread, etc. - apologies, I just had to rant).

Thanks guys! Lol, it's my favorite part of a Tony speech!! Wanted to see Kelli's "once again I didn't win" face, and Jan's "maybe this year" face and of course James Earl Jones' priceless face...

I agree, I miss that too! It should start with the announcement, the reaction and then the award.

Also -- would a graphic either ON the vid or in the title mention WHAT they are winning for? Especially because of the above omission?

And no....sadly, I haven't seen the pre show award aceptances anywhere: AND I WANT TO!

Again, poor choices by the Tony People.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Agree completely. Such a wrong-headed decision to eliminate the reading of nominees, the moment of anticipation, and the announcement of the winner. If nothing else, totally disrespectful to the non-winning nominees to not include them in the online record.

Am I understanding this thread correctly? Rather than enjoy the winners' speeches, you want to complain because you prefer seeing the 'losers' show their disappointment? How sad for you if that's your favorite thing. Do you also enjoy kicking puppies to hear them whine or taking away a doll from a baby to see how loudly she'll cry?

"Do you also enjoy kicking puppies to hear them whine or taking away a doll from a baby to see how loudly she'll cry?"

Both of those are terrible comparisons.

I only want to see the WINNER'S reaction.

And in no way does the entire thread (or even most of the thread) make you think folks are looking for the negative.

I think Chenoweth's win for such a surprise for everyone, that was a great year.

Kelli O'Hara may very well become the Susan Lucci of the Tonys .... She should have a Tony for Light in the Piazza

ljay889, watching your links confirmed to me the importance of documenting all the nominees, not just the winning speech (the original argument of this thread) — it makes for a quick summation of who was competing that year when the memory fades. (And it will. I'd already forgotten half of these nominations — sorry, ladies.)

Cheers!
