Well, all these unnecessary touches when Bobby could just be gay and in denial (seriously, it's as simple as him seeing a random fellow walk by, and then having a spark, and then singing "Being Alive," finally realizing that trying to go straight and running from what he is won't make it better, and now he's going to have to strike out on his own... I love the idea of the last image of the show being Bobby having the stones to go up to the guy) seem to indicate over-compensating to me. Either he's trying too hard knowing too many changes will fall flat on their face, or someone offered him an absurd amount of money to try something that may not make it out of a reading.
