Or in my case, part of a song. I cannot believe I am going to make a positive 'Wicked' post, but hey, stranger things have happened!
Anyway, back to the topic. I really do like "The Wicked Witch of the East" even though I completely understand why it didn't make it onto the CD (To much talking, not enough singing, to many major plot spoilers in the song, basically a disjointed reprise of "Dancing Through Life).
Well to be more accurate, I can do without alot of the song, but I love the 'Girl in the Mirror' solo bit Nessarose has. It is sweet, it is poignant and just a little bit heartbreaking. It (the song as a whole) sadly also was the best (and only) character development Nessarose got in the entire frigging show. To bad there was only like 30 seconds of actual singing.

Posted: 7/27/05 at 11:07amI agree with Wicked Witch of the East. And does it count to include a song (or all of them) from bare?

Posted: 7/27/05 at 11:10amBring on the Men from Jekyl & Hyde. It was in the show pre-Broadway, taken out when it got to New York (replaced by Good N' Evil I think) and never made it onto the OBCR. It was back in the show when I saw the touring production. It is one of my favorite shows in the show and I did not purchase the OBCR because of this and a few other reasons. I'll stick to the original concept recording.

"Yes Sir, PLease Sir" cut from The Act. A song that dealt with sexual abuse, rape and sosodomy, Gower Champion thought it was too long and slowed the pace of the show. Luckily it was preserved on Ben Bagley's Contemporary Broadway Revisited LP/CD and sung by Fay De Witt.
"Yes Sir, Please Sir" sung by Lissette.

Posted: 7/29/05 at 10:01am'If you still love me' from the latest version of Martin Guerre (same tune as 'Here comes the morning' for those with the OLC). It is in the vocal selections though....

Posted: 7/29/05 at 10:09amYeah I agree with the Wicked Witch of the East and the full version of sentimental man. There was also a lot of extra music I noticed in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Also, looking at that opposite, "Why We Like Spelling" is on the Spelling Bee CD and not in the show. It upsets me highly.

"And..." from "A Chorus Line." -- The only song that didn't make it (even in an abridged form) on the original recording. It's not a major song, but having done the show, I always miss hearing it on the recording. It's a clever "inner monologue" sung by a few of the dancers about their nervousness at the audition.
I also miss hearing "Pssst," which is actually a big dance number from The Wiz. It was nearly all dance music, played over a big fashion parade of costumes at the Emerald City, but had a bit of singing to it as well. Also "Who Do you Think You Are?" sung by Dorothy and her gang, after they expose the Wiz as a fraud.
With more time alotted on CDs now than there used to be on vinyl, you kind of have to dig back a few decades to hit the shows where they REALLY used to cut a lot out of the scores.

This is exactly the opposite --
The song TENTERFIELD SADDLER was cut from the final version of THE BOY FROM OZ and was replaced by ONCE BEFORE I GO.
But maybe because Tenterfield Saddler contained the story of the life of Peter Allen, poignantly narrated ( but it did not work in the show), the song was included in the OCR as a bonus track. ONCE BEFORE I GO had its own memorable place in the show, because it drew regular pre-finale standing ovations for Hugh Jackman.

Forgot---Half the score from Dreamgirls. Such a shame. The OBC recording was released about a year before CDs came out in wide release, and was butchered by the time restrictions of vinyl LPs. And (unlike "Nine") they never did record the full version in a studio. Our loss. I'm glad they restored "Nine" to the full show, though. "Follies" OBC recording is another one cut way down.
I find it interesting that more and more recent CD releases have included (whenever possible) songs that were cut from their initial LP releases. "Oklahoma!" "A Little Night Music," "Merrily We Roll Along," etc. Trying to make up for their sins, I guess. Of course, if the songs were never recorded to begin with, it's a little difficult to do that.

Posted: 7/29/05 at 6:25pmThe Producers. I have the dvd of the recording session and I bought the cd only because I fell in love with the conga number at the end of "Keep It Gay." That little conga bit did not make it into the cd. Does anyone know why?

I forgot about Follies
I just remembered the hatchet job RCA did on Inner City eliminating almost half the score by doing 1 LP instead of 2

Posted: 7/29/05 at 8:30pmI always found it odd that the prologue on "Into the Woods" was cut almost identically on all the cast albums from that show (original Broadway, London and revival). That being said, I've always wanted a complete recording of "Into the Woods" with some of the musical reprises that haven't made a recording. (Cinderella's stepsisters trying on the shoe, "Second Midnight," etc.)

I think, maybe, they cut SURE THING, BABY from the OCR The Boy from Oz ( other than due to space limitations) because it was mostly dancing sequences from Peter and the ensemble and a bit of patter directed to the audience. The sung parts were mostly from Greg and Dee.
But it would have been nice if room could be have been found for it.

Time was there was room for Sure Thing Baby
The cut songs from Spamalot would have been great & with the CD clocking in @ a little over 50 minutes there was room

Posted: 7/30/05 at 12:03pmI agree with Wicked Witch of the East. That solo bit by Nessa at the end is sweet and heartbreaking. I think its a shame that Nessa doesn't have a song of her own like almost every other character.

Posted: 7/30/05 at 4:08pmTenterfield Saddler is on the original Australian cast recording with Todd McKenny - this is the original show before it went to Broadway. It is quite different to the bway cast with different musical arrangments. Personnaly I prefer this version, altho I have never seen the bway show so can't comment on that aspect, the arrangements I feel were much better on the original. Particularly 'She Loves To Hear The Music' and what was with the mother having an english accent?? what the?? Also it has the song 'Sure Thing Baby', definately check it out! As much as I love Hugh Jackman, in my opinion Peter Allen wasn't a great singer and at time's I felt Hugh was too good to pull it off!! Anywyas it's definately worth a look!!!:)
