Songs That Should Be Sung Only Be A Man or Woman But Not Both

I was just listening to Michael Ball sing Don't Rain On My Parade and while the song was reworked slightly, it doesn't sound right being sung by a man.
Any others that should only be sung by either a man or a woman, even outside of the confines of a book musical?

Uh, but Lovett sings part of that song.
I'd say "I Feel Pretty." Even camped up, guys should steer clear.

I think people should be able to sing whatever song.
Joanne Worley recently sang a kicka** version of "I Am What I Am". And why not?

Posted: 6/3/05 at 1:44pmJRB, not looking to outlaw the practice, but some songs/lyrics just don't sound right being sung by a one of the two sexes in a serious manner. Little Richard singing I Feel Pretty is camp and meant to amuse. Having Little Richard SERIOUSLY sing I Feel Pretty without trying to amuse or camp it up just doesn't sound kosher.

But he could try. People will constantly amaze when taking risks.
Anyway, you asked for opinions, and that was mine.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 1:46pmDon't Cry For Me Argentina sounds pretty weird sung by a man. I would love to hear Ellen Degeneres sing In Praise of Women from A Little Night Music. Just once.

I feel that a man should never sing,
"All That Jazz".

Michael Ball, bless his heart, records a lot of stuff he really shouldn't. I'm not saying that because he's a man. I'm saying that because was there really a need for him to sing "My heart will go on," or "Every story is a love story?" Although I do adore him and commend him for embracing his cheesiness.:)

I don't think I'm interesting in hearing a guy sing "I enjoy being a girl"

tits and ass sung by a man in drag=very funny.
Come on people, lighten up. Any singer should feel to free to sing whatever seems comfortable for them.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 2:40pmActually Albin, you should lighten up. No one here is looking to draft legislation banning one sex from singing a song that doesn't sound right coming out of their mouths. Just a fun post, nothing more.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 2:43pmCheck out Kathy Najimy's husband Dan Finnerty and the Dan band for some hysterical versions of songs that should be sung or have been sung by women. He was on Bravo last night here in NEw York at 11pm. I think he does some Bway stuff. I saw him live at Fez a couple of years ago when Kathy was in Dirty Blonde and he was GREAT

"Somewhere That's Green" is (for me) a great song to sing, but wouldn't work for a guy... unfortunately

Sing what you want...
At auditions, it often gets you noticed, and you arent compared to everyone else singing the same song....
I sang I Dreamed a Dream at auditions for awhile and it always got me noticed.
