Assuming that Once, Newsies, Nice Work and ??? are nominated tomorrow, what songs from each do you think should be performed on the Tony telecast. Also, what revivals and what songs from those shows?
This might sound like a crazy idea but I thought for FOLLIES, maybe they could do a truncated medley of LOVELAND. That way the ensemble and each star can have their turn.
I agree with qolbinau, I'd love to see a Loveland medley. I think it's also possible they might do Waiting For The Girls Upstairs as it features all four leads.
Their final show in Los Angeles is on June 9th. Then red eye back to NYC for whoever is going to perform.
I wonder if the producers are inviting Tony Voters to Los Angeles.
They shouldn't.
Once will most likely do the rendition of Falling Slowly with the cast's long intro that they have done on Letterman and other shows.
Newsies may do their Seize the Day/Santa Fe medley, but I think they should really choose The World Will Know.

I could also see Once performing Gold, possibly.
BEST MUSICAL
Bonnie & Clyde - "This World Will Remember Us"
Ghost: The Musical - "Suspend My Disbelief/I Had A Life" or "Here Right Now"
Leap Of Faith - "Jonas's Soliloquy"
Lysistrata Jones - "Give It Up"
Newsies - "Seize The Day" or Medley
Nice Work If You Can Get It - "They All Laughed"
Once - "Falling Slowly"
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark - "Rise Above"
BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL
Evita - "Buenos Aires", "High Flying Adored" or "A New Argentina"
Follies - "Waiting For The Girls Upstairs" or "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow/Love Will See Us Through" with the 4 principals
The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess - "Summertime"
Godspell - "Day By Day" or a Medley
Jesus Christ Superstar - "Everything's Alright" or "Superstar"
On A Clear Day You Can See Forever - "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever"

I could see "Nice Work" doing "S'Wonderful" to showcase Matthew and Kelli. It really is just a delightful number.
Once-Falling Slowly
Newsies-Seize the Day/King of New York (I think they may do a medley of those songs)
Nice Work-Suspect the theme song will be their choice ("Nice Work if You Can Get It")
Bonnie and Clyde-"This World Will Remember Us"
Leap of Faith-the song with the tent going up would be the most impressive (don't have the playbill in front of me but I think that one would be the best on TV)
Ghost-In my heart, I want "Unchained Melody" but I think they'll use "Here Right Now" if they're nominated (and may couple it with "Unchained Melody").
Spider Man-Rise Above is the most likely choice
Lysistrata Jones-Don't know it well enough to make a judgment
Revival:
Evita-Medley of Buenos Aires/Oh What a Circus or A New Argentina (I think they're going to want something to showcase Ricky Martin) I also think the Waltz for Eva and Che would be an interesting choice
Follies-Losing My Mind
Gershwins' Porgy and Bess-Summertime (including Bess' reprise)
Jesus Christ Superstar-Superstar
On a Clear Day-Medley of "It's Lovely Up Here"/"On a Clear Day..."
I don't think Godspell will be nominated, but if it is, I really hope they do O Bless the Lord. The world (of Tony Award watchers) needs to see Lindsay Mendez do her thing.

I would think "A New Argentina" is best as it showcases all three principles. No one will stop thinking of Patti and company from 1979, though.
"No one will stop thinking of Patti and company from 1979, though."
Based on a lot of reviews, that seems to be the case. Don't know too much about Elena to judge, but I really hope the show does well overall, not just at the Tonys. But this is a conversation for a whole 'nother thread!
Was hoping for "Who's That Woman" from FOLLIES, the one number everyone (87%) tended to agree on.
You guys don't think that if GHOST gets nominated they will sing "I'm Outta Here" given that Da'Vine is the most likely contender to receive an acting nominee?
And I really hope that Spider-Man performs "Boy Falls From the Sky". That is one of my favorite songs from that show.
I could def see Once doing Falling Slowly, since that's by far the best known song. Newsies will probably do their usual Seize the Day/Santa Fe number- especially with Jeremy Jordan being such a favorite theyll want to give him that showcase final verse.
If B&C gets nominated, and if Melissa manages a nomination for Featured Actress, then I think they'll end up doing You Love Who You Love or That's What You Call A Dream just to showcase her. And which are also incredibly easy to stage and don't require much else other than the two people in those scenes.
But if that doesn't end up being the way they'd go with it, then This World Will Remember Us is probably definitely what they'd end up doing. And in that case, I'd almost (ALMOST) feel bad for Jeremy for having to perform twice in one telecast for two different shows.
If Bonnie and Clyde gets nominated they still may not perform...Finian's Rainbow revival, and the 90second performance from the Ragtime revival...the real issue if they nominated and do perform is Jermeny's Newsies contract and if its exclusive, he wont be allowed to perform with them, if i had to bet they would probably do "You love who you love" to prevent that issue
Shows that have closed might not perform at all, or end up choosing very small numbers -- it's an expensive thing to mount a Tony performance -- and they'd have to pay the actors.
IF they wanted Jordan to sing a song from B&C, he could -- easily. (Aren't there many producers in common?) And its not like he'd be promoting competition.

As much as I like Seize the Day/Santa Fe, I'd wish they'd perform other songs from the show like King of New York, The World will Know or Carrying the Banner but I guess it's the signature song of the show.

Not to mention same director and other members...
Though I think if Melissa gets nominated (as well as the musical) there is a strong chance they will perform "You Love Who You Love." If she's not but they still get best musical, definitely "The World Will Remember Us."
Just a few years ago the rule was, if a show is closed, they do not perform.
I hate medly's, give me one great number, full through even if the actors nominated aren't in them. The presentation is for the show, not one or two actors.
If I hear that damn song from ONCE once again I may puke.
Yeah, I'm kind of over the Seize the Day/Santa Fe medley. It's wonderful and shows off almost everyone, but I'd like to see something they haven't already done for TV. My votes are Carryin' the Banner or The World Will Know. I'd love to see Once And For All, but since that's right towards the end of the show... well.
"Just a few years ago the rule was, if a show is closed, they do not perform."
When was this a rule? One of my favorite Tony performances was "I Will Never Leave You," from Side Show which closed 6 months before the Tonys back in 1998.
