I'm with someone now but there is one man that will always be "the one that got away"...and of course I remember every time my heart was broken...so here goes:

WILL I?-(RENT)-The song that got me hooked on RENT; reminds me how fragile life is and to quit tripping over some man.

WITHOUT YOU-(RENT-OBC)-pure emotion.

YOUR EYES-(RENT)-Rips my heart out and stomps on it, sometimes you just need to wallow.

FOR GOOD-(Wicked)-Only if it was a mutual kind of thing.

DEFYING GRAVITY-(Wicked)-Just because, it's kind of "I Will Survive"-ish.

I KNOW THE TRUTH-(Aida)-Just so damn bittersweet.

CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN-(SOM)-Need I say more?


I have more from non-broadway sources though, when thoroughly depressed I listen to:


UNDISCOVERED-(Adam Pascal-Model Prisoner)-just soothes me.

I'M WITH YOU-(Adam Pascal-Civilian)-reminds me of my kids when they were younger and makes me happy...sort of.

STILL I RISE-(Yolanda Adams)-Gospel totally, but it's quite the power song too.

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL-(ABBA)-just 'cause.

WHAT MAKES YOU STAY-(Hope Floats Soundtrack)-a question I've asked myself entirely too many times.

THE DANCE-(Garth Brooks)-ouch, quit it.

TO MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE-(Garth Brooks-Hope Floats Soundtrack again)-reminds me of what I don't have, sadistic huh.

There's more but I'm not totally sad over anyone right now, of course that could change cause the guy I'm with pisses me off weekly...

Fine, Fine Line from Avenue Q is a good one...

I went through a phase where I was marginally obsessed with I Know Him So Well from Chess, it fit my situation at the time.

Barely Breathing by Duncan Sheik and Silver Springs by Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac have also come in handy.

Currently, though, Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover by Sophie B. Hawkins or Never Gonna Be Your Baby by Daphne Rubin-Vega apply much better.

But my favorite song to listen to when somebody has really mangled my heart is still Devil's Child by Judas Priest.

John Mayer always does it for me when I'm sad - that or jazz (Ella Fitzgerald). There's something therapeutic about the sadness in their voices.
