I guess this is the 3rd in the group of threes for new releases of cast albums! Great third!

I love the version of How Can Love Survive on this.
The Rule of 3 survives! I remember reading somewhere years ago that the real Maria called this Cast/Version her favorite.
Its stunning!
The version I listen to above all others.

Castlestreet, was it in the book "The Sound Of Music Companion"? I remember reading it too that it was the real Maria's favourite production, and I think its from that book. Now I need to tidy up, and find my copy.

Fashionguru- now that you asked I can't remember- it was either in the companion book or...
Does anyone remember the original Cast Album Collectors Database- they had an amazing section that listed all kinds of rare/out of print CDs and then there was a section broken down by "never released on CD" and such- each Album had a breakdown of what made it hard to find, or if it had never been released on CD why it hadn't- it might have been a footnote on that website as well- but for the life of me I can't remember now.

Ahh!! This is my favorite "Sound of Music" cast recording! It's very unique and simply beautiful. I was lucky enough to download the songs a couple of years ago. They're on my laptop and I listen to them all the time.
It's a great recording and Petula Clark's Maria is very different from all the others. The orchestrations are also really cool! I only wish they recorded the reprise of Sixteen Going On Seventeen. I wonder if it'll be released in the U.S.?
Oh, and the real Maria von Trapp apparently said Petula Clark was the best Maria and the production was her favorite and it best reflected that period of her life. I think it was because the real Maria begged Petula to play the role like a tomboy and she perfected it.
Where did they take those shots? The New Forest?
Also, this production didn't have "Something Good" did it?
Clap, the photos were taken on the original film locations!!!
They were spread throughout the brochure.

Those shots were taken in Salzburg.
This was also the first stage production to use both "I Have Confidence" and "Something Good." Petula sings "I Have Confidence" differently than the way Julie Andrews did it. Also, the Captain only sings one line in "Something Good."
Oh, they did use "Something Good"? Good! I HATE "An Ordinary Couple".
Original film locations? Big budget! Very posh!
Ross Taylor! Say no more.
The old Apollo Leisure pumped millions into this production as it was seen as the christening of the new Apollo Victoria.
They followed it with major productions of Topol in 'Fiddler On The Roof' and Richard Harris in 'Camelot'.
The theatre then played host to seasons of Liza Minelli, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones and Shirley McLaine before it found a tenant for 18 years with 'Starlight Express'

I heard it was very grand and it was like watching a movie on stage! I wish I could have seen it. Oh well.
The Wedding March incorporated the original theatre organ built for the theatres cinema days. That alone is something to be seen.
Its till there, fully restored. It was partly dismantled during the run of 'Starlight'.
The pipes are fully visible today.
Maria made her wedding entrance down the centre aisle of the theatre , it was like being in a cathedral, the building rocked when the organ played.
The organ pipes are clearly visible here in the side of the pros arch and along the top. now painted green for 'Wicked'

This is one of my favorite recordings of the show. I will be happy to replace my LP rip.
According to page 150 of "The Sound Of Music Companion", it says that the real Maria Von Trapp was at opening night, and took a curtain call with Petula Clark, and say that "(Ross) Taylor's production was the best she had ever seen".
June Bronhill was a great singer and it's impressive that she sings "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" up half a tone (or is it up a whole tone?), but it's also kind of funny when she gets to the end and sings, "TUUUHHHH ... YAAAAHHHH ..... FAAAAHHHH .... YAAAAAHHHHH .... AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" The last note is particularly odd, not even the slightest attempt to sing anything that sounds like "dream."
She does sound great, but it's not English. Or any other language except Operasinger.

This is great news. One of my favourite recordings of the show. At last I'll be able to replace my od LP :) It was a beautiful production; literally like watching a movie onstage. The dissolves between the scenes using gauzes were stunning. I will never forget the scene transformation from the abbey to Maria on the mountainside at the top of the show - Petula standing in among the trees in front of a late evening sun. It was simply beautiful. Also, the journey to the villa in 'I Have Confidence' really moved the show and story along, and on arriving, Maria rang the bell and the whole set revolved around her taking her inside. Brilliant. Still laugh at June Bronhill's 'Climb Ev'ry MunTUN'...look forward to hearing that again :)

She's younger (I presume) in this clip, but she does at least find the proper words

I'm kind of mixed. I really did not like the way Petula sounded in the transfer I have of the album...but everyone raves about her...maybe something was wrong with it's transfer.
Either way, I think this is the only recording of "Sound of Music" (Production wise, not studio casts) that I'm missing, so I'll buy it.

Thanks for the links.
Yeah, Bronhill does come closer to singing in something that sounds like English on the final notes there, husk_charmer.
Am I wrong or is that in the original key? Or at least lower than what she sings it in on the cast recording?
