It's fascinating to hear these critics discuss the show after a part of the song where Warner breaks up with Elle. Such intelligent analysis...It begins about 20 minutes into the program, although at the top of the show is a clip from another song.

That's a very interesting American accent from Mr. Duncan James.
How utterly fascinating that the British see what so many critics and bigmouths failed to see in this country.
It's fun. It's very well-mounted and it is certainly worth every penny you pay for a ticket.
That Elle could find a home abroad far more welcoming than Broadway is a sad reflection on us, not a sad reflection on the British taste.
Why does Warner sound like a 30's Gangster?
I completely agree, allofmylife.
Broadway failed to see the charm of Legally Blonde as a fun (and witty) show with a really great score. It saddens me as well to know that Elle's message is brightly shining abroad brighter than it did on Broadway.

I wish they would gather American critics from different perspectives like these people and have them discuss shows.
"That's a very interesting American accent from Mr. Duncan James. "
The American accents were absolutely terrible. Vivienne made no attempt at all to mask her British accent.
I did love the cast, though, for the most part. Their accents were just one fail after another, however.
"I did love the cast, though, for the most part. Their accents were just one fail after another, however."
And this is why I would LOVE to see Billy Elliot on Broadway! The London Cast can't even do a North-East accent convincingly (My hometown is 10 minutes from Easington).
London has always, and will probably continue to be IMHO more accepting and trying at new, creative, and different pieces.
Tell that to Spring Awakening and The Drowsy Chaperone, two of the newest, creative and different pieces to come to London in recent years.
I think for some reason, Blonde just works well. And everyone loves Sheridan.
And when you say "Blonde", you're actually saying: mindless fluff.... right?
No wonder LEGALLY BLONDE is doing so well over there. Not surprised, at all. That's the sad part.
I'd heard only bubbling reviews of LB on Broadway, and then I saw it and absolutely couldn't stand it.
But hey, 30 actors get to pay their rent, so I wont complain about anything.

Wait, Legally Blonde is a witty show? Fun, yes. Guilty pleasure, sure. But I don't think it's at all witty. IMO the score has its moments but the book is just downright insulting to people's intelligence.
Musicsnob1, I don't recognize you as you are new here but the first two threads I read tonight have you dumping on Legally Blonde and the original star of Legally Blonde. Hope that's not a trend on your part....
And here's a hint, make your profile public, so I don't have to ask this question.
Presumably MusicSnob1 is the latest incarnation of TooDarnHot/The Charleston...

Ofcourse Legally Blonde is doing well over here, along with Jerusalem, Red and Enron. Intelligent, cultured, sophisticated and cool Brits can appreciate all four just like their intelligent, cultured, sophisticated and cool American cousins.
(which excludes MusicSnob1 on the first four definitions)

Here's an interesting interview with the woman playing Elle in London.

Great article, i love Sheridan. Ive met her a few times and she lovely, very down to earth, im thrilled shes walked away with such raves
Totally agree Dantes! I've met her a couple of times too and I think she is the not-so-secret weapon behind the show's success in London. She's lovely, bubbly, completely without pretension and brings a wonderful comedic sensibility to the role of Elle which knocks Laura Bell Bundy's performance into a cocked hat.
Audiences know her from a raft of sit-coms but many wouldn't have realised her all-round talent or known about her theatrical background. It was a big risk for her to take on such a demanding role, so pleased she pulled it off and garnered such lovely reviews in the process.
